Registration for the 2021 Broken Arrow Skyrace, presented by Salomon, opens at 9am PST TODAY! Please join us! Remember, all NEW registered runners will go on a waitlist and NOT be charged anything. Only when we can determine that we can safely and effectively hold our event will we begin accepting additional runners, so there is no risk in registering and getting on the list. And for all those 2020 runners ... you have been automatically rolled over and there is nothing left... to do but keep your fingers and toes crossed! Now, we can't say when that decision will be made ... but we promise to continue to put the safety of our runners, volunteers and the North Lake Tahoe community at large FIRST. It is our sincere hope that the universe will align and we can all come together again at the mountain playground that is Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, but we will have to wait and see. Because things couldn’t get more difficult in 2020 After our email from last week, many of you have contacted us because you had challenges rolling over your registration for the 2021 Broken Arrow Skyrace, presented by Salomon. Entrants reported a number of technical issues with UltraSignup ranging from being asked to provide a provide credit card number (for your free roll-over) to being placed on the waitlist to being able to sign up for only one event (despite having been... previously registered for multiple distances). We apologize for the confusion and inconvenience this may have caused and wanted to alert you to the action we have taken to rectify the situation. Instead of having everyone opt in and re-register as we had originally planned, we have gone ahead and done it for you. In other words, if you were registered for this years’ race, you are automatically registered those same distance(s) for next year’s race. You do not have to do anything else! Having said that, if you do not see your rollover in your Ultrasignup profile for each and every 2020 you were registered for ....PLEASE reach out to us so we can dig deeper. We recognize that some of you may be unable to join us in 2021 and may not have planned on re-registering. We also get that asking you to take the extra step of canceling your registration does put the onus back on you and that’s not really fair. Hopefully this will affect a relatively small number of people and we can only appeal to your understanding that by yielding your place you will allow an interested runner to benefit. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and have our fingers crossed that we will be able to welcome you to our mountain playground in June. Each year at the start line of the Broken Arrow Skyrace, we remind our runners that in the end, nothing matters more than your family, friends and challenging yourself in the mountains. We were devastated to read of @tommy_rivs struggle with some type of pneumonia/Covid/unknown issue today, which shows that no one, not even this super human endurance athlete, may be safe from this earth-scorching plague. Regardless of his affliction he needs our help! When the chips are dow...n, there is no one better than the Ultrarunning family. In times of need we support our own, and now is the time to support #teamsrivs. We’ve had the pleasure of meeting Tommy, and there could not be a kinder, more gentle and compassionate soul walking this earth. There is nothing we want more than to watch you #RingDasBell this June in Squaw Valley. However, like many large scale events across the world, we've begun to receive inquiries regarding the current COVID-19 virus, and how it could potentially affect race weekend. With 100 days until the event, it is our dearest hope that the situation will have improved and that the Broken Arrow Skyrace, presented by Salomon, can proceed as planned. At this point, we are not planning to ca...ncel or postpone the event. We will, however, continue to monitor this evolving health situation and adjust these plans as circumstances dictate. We will always act in the best interest of our Broken Arrow community, so that our runners, volunteers, spectators, and staff remain safe. That will ALWAYS be our top priority. Additionally, we can tell you that we will seek the guidance of public health officials at the local, state, and federal levels to help drive our decision making process. We are delighted to announce that The Broken Arrow Skyrace 26K has been selected to host the 2020 USA Track & Field Long Distance Mountain Running Championships!!! Last year, Broken Arrow was a "selection race" for the national team. This year, we will also crown the women's and men's US Champions in Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows!!! The top US finishers will receive automatic spots on the team for the 2020 World Mountain Running Association (WMRA) Long Distance Mountain Runnin...g Championships, which will be held in Femés, Lanzarotte, Spain on November 14-15. As you may already know, Broken Arrow is also a part of the WMRA World Cup (the first and only US race to hold this distinction). So...long story short...the domestic and international competition is going to be wicked FIERCE (said in my thickest Boston accent)!!! It seems like a lifetime ago that we launched The Broken Arrow Skyrace, Presented by Salomon. We have watched our community grow over the last five years and are beyond grateful for the support and friendship we have received from the Broken Arrow family. We are beyond honored by this latest distinction but, ultimately, our goal is to create an amazing experience that YOU will never forget. We are delighted to announce that, for the second year in a row, The Broken Arrow Skyrace 26K, Presented by Salomon will be a part of the World Mountain Running Association World Cup!!!! Last year, eventual World Cup Champion, Andrew Douglas (Great Britain), threw down a staggering performance, rounding the 26K course in a time of 1:56:31 to take the win. On the women's side, Lindsay Webster (Canada) narrowly topped an incredibly packed field, which included Morgan Arritola, ...Kasie Wallace Enman, and others. We hope to continue to grow Broken Arrow as a destination race for elite runners as well as recreational runners from around the world. Last year, we welcomed competitors from 17 countries to our Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows playground, including the US, Canada, South Africa, Tanzania, Australia, Great Britain, Mexico, Sweden, Hong Kong, Italy, Hungary, Japan, Romania, French Polynesia, Denmark, France, and India!!! We are grateful to the World Mountain Running Association for their partnership and to the runners who made the trip to come play with us. Whaaaaat? You're not an elite runner? The holiday season is a time to express thanks and gratitude... and we couldn't be more grateful for one of our very own today. Today is Sean Flanagan's 40th birthday! Sean is our next-level volunteer coordinator and general all-around glue. He embodies Pablo Picasso's concept that "The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away." Sean is one of the most selfless, wonderful, kind and caring people you could ever meet. We're so honored to have him on our team. Not only is SF an accomplished ultra runner himself, with finishes at Western States Endurance Run and more, he's the glue to our organization and many others. But at the end of the day we love him for who he is, what he does and most importantly how he does it. Happy birthday Sean!
