October is here! You never know what kind of weather you're going to get in California during this month, but whether it's hot or chilly, we have the beers to make all kinds of weather more pleasant. Inquire within!
Drinking beer outside has a long tradition in US. In the 1800s, people from Germany and Eastern Europe emigrated to the U.S. to escape religious persecution, political unrest or agricultural scarcity. Many brought beer-making traditions with them. Soon, beer gardens and beer halls opened to serve those communities.... Beer gardens were sprawling, family-friendly outdoor spaces that encouraged patrons to linger. As they developed in American cities during the 1840s through the 1870s, music, games and other entertainments often were part of the draw. Many resembled elaborate amusement parks. (Anheuser-Busch would later capitalize on this idea by creating a series of theme parks called Busch Gardens.)
In 1985 Norway had its first aircraft hijacking. The man kept 116 passengers and 5 crew members hostage with a gun, which he surrendered an hour after landing in exchange for beer. There were no casualties. Beer makes the world a better place!
Today is the birthday of Bobby Short, a singer and pianist and an American icon who was named a living legend by the Library of Congress in 2000. His one of most famous songs is called "Give a pigfoot and a bottle of beer". While we're short on pig feet, we do have the beer!
Cleanliness is so important in brewing. Our tools need to be virtually sterile in order for the wort to be comfortable enough to turn itself into delicious beer. Part of being a good brewer is being a good janitor. It's one of our trade secrets.
Transferring the hoppiest beer in the world. This will be a good one. Coming soon!
Dry hopping is the process of adding hops after the wort has cooled down. Since the hops are not boiled, oils won’t be extractedand therefore will not be contributing to the beer’s bitterness. What is added are hop flavor and aroma. The term dry hopping originated centuries ago with British brewers and was used to refer to adding hops to the cask shortly before it was shipped off to the customer. In fact, 1/2-ounce hop plugs were specifically developed by British hop producers to be a convenient way to add whole hops to a keg or cask. Nowadays, dry hopping refers to any hop addition after the wort has been cooled.
Are you ready for the heatwave? I don't know if anyone is. But we have a secret potion that will make it more enjoyable. Come and inquire - we open at 1pm!
"Everybody's got to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer." - W. C. Fields (American comedian)
A beautiful sentiment stretching to the very beginnings of civilization. Cheers!
What's your favorite joke? One of my go-to's is, Why did the grandma fall down the well? . . . Cause she couldn't see that well.
