Say to the Breastlink Orange team looking pretty in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness Month! Here are some mammogram basics for your upcoming appointment: 1. Women should begin having mammograms yearly at age 40, or earlier if they're at high risk.... 2. Mammography is a fast procedure (about 20 minutes), and discomfort is minimal for most women 3. Get the best quality you can- we are proud to offer 3D mammography at our centers 4. A mammogram can often find or detect breast cancer early, when it’s small and even before a lump can be felt www.Breastlink.com

"A common misconception among women is that if they are without a family history of breast cancer, then they are unlikely to develop the disease themselves. In fact, the vast majority of breast cancers are diagnosed in women without any predisposing risk factors at all, such as strong family history. 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. The majority of these women are merely at average risk of developing the disease. - Dr. Jason McKellop Thank you Dr.... Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day #BRAday Every woman fighting breast cancer deserves to know her options for reconstruction. Many women are unaware that it is a federal law that health insurers cover breast reconstructive procedures. Although reconstruction following a mastectomy or lumpectomy is not for every woman, we believe every woman should be informed of the options she is legally entitled to. #Breastlink #BreastCancerReconstructionAwareness

Some think that because they do not have a family history of breast cancer, they cannot or will not develop breast cancer. They may gain a false sense of security and not worry about those annual mammograms. However, 70-80% of breast cancers have nothing to do with our genetic makeup. The top two risk factors for developing breast cancer are being a woman and aging. - Dr. Lisa E. Guerra #Breastlink #BreastCancer #BreastHealth #BreastSurgeon www.Breastlink.com

There will be an impact that will be felt and will be detectable down the road There will be untoward consequences as a result of the interruption in the routine screening paradigm that existed before Covid-19. - Dr. Jason McKellop https://www.breastlink.com//cancer-doesnt-stop-for-a-pand/... #Breastlink #BreastCancer #EarlyDetection

I always tell my patients "no one knows your breast better than you"; therefore, monthly breast self-examinations can potentially find a problem earlier than an annual exam with your provider. Dr. Shawndeep Tung

There are several symptoms that can occur in women with breast cancer. Experiencing one or more of these breast symptoms does not mean you have cancer. However, women should be aware of symptoms and changes in their breasts to enable early detection of breast cancer.

It’s World Heart Day! According to the CDC, some women do not have any symptoms of heart disease, while others may have: * Angina (dull and heavy or sharp chest pain or discomfort)... * Pain in the neck, jaw, or throat * Pain in the upper abdomen or back These symptoms may happen when you are resting or when you are doing regular daily activities. Women also may have other symptoms, including * Nausea * Vomiting * Fatigue Several medical conditions and risk factors including lifestyle, age and family history can increase your risk for heart disease. About 47% of Americans have at least 1 of 3 key risk factors for heart disease: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking. While you can not control some risk factors, there are ways to lower your risk by making healthy changes in your life. * Choose healthy foods and drinks * Maintain a healthy weight * Be physically active regularly * Don’t smoke * Limit alcohol Additionally, work with your medical team to check your cholesterol, control your blood pressure, manage diabetes, and take medicines as directed, to prevent or treat medical conditions that can lease to heart disease. #Breastlink #WorldHeartDay

Happy National Daughters Day! Sharing this important message again. We encourage all women to make your breast health a priority. Your family needs you for lif...e’s most meaningful moments. I was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive triple negative breast cancer 10 years ago. I could not feel the tumor myself so having a mammogram was essential. In my case, delaying my mammogram by 3-6 months could potentially have been a game changer for me. My biggest fear when I received my diagnosis was that I wouldn’t be here for my children. This picture brings that memory so vividly back to me. I was there for my daughters wedding and now to see her have her own baby. What a gift! -Jill Canales, Breastlink Angels #Breastlink #NationalDaughtersDay2020 #BreastCancerSurvivor
