Today marks the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the civil rights leader’s life and legacy. It is seen as a day to promote equal rights for all Americans, regardless of their background. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities.

The Baldwin Park Teen Center invites all teens to join us on Wednesday, January 27th from 3PM-4PM for a virtual workshop on GENDER, SEXUALITY & MEDIA. Conducted by Planned Parenthood, Teens will discuss on how gender roles and stereotypes impact the way we communicate with one another, and how gender affects our expectations on a personal and societal level. Teens will also critically reassess common gender norms and recognize how stereotyping gender limits an individual’s personal growth and development. Virtual learning can be difficult for students of all ages. Try these tips for staying motivated and keeping a positive attitude through these unique times.

Important message for Waste Management Customers Beginning Monday, December 28th green waste and recycling carts will be serviced biweekly. This is a temporary service change to prioritize staffing for trash pickup due to COVID-19 impacts. The rotation will be as follows: Week of December 28: Trash and recycling collection only Week of January 4: Trash and green waste collection only ... Week of January 11: Trash and recycling collection only Week of January 18: Trash and green waste collection only Week of January 25: Trash and recycling collection only Please note: Christmas trees will only be picked up on green waste collection weeks. Please break down all cardboard boxes to make room for extra recyclables and place any extra green waste material in a bag next to your cart. Bulky item pickup will not be affected. This rotation will continue until further notice. We appreciate your understanding during these difficult times. * Community Service Opportunity * This holiday season the Baldwin Park Teen Center will be having a book drive, collecting new word search and Sudoku books to distribute to seniors in the community. These puzzles will be beneficial for the seniors as it will keep their minds active. Students can earn community service by donating puzzle books Wednesdays & Thursdays from 9AM-3PM - 1 hour for every book donated starting November 4th. Happy Election Day! Fun Fact: Did you know that you could vote from outer space? Astronauts from Texas who find themselves in space on Election Day can still vote, thanks to a law in their state that allows secure ballots to be sent to space by Mission Control in Houston.
