Water is 100% essential for life and crops. We understand the vital importance of this resource for communities, the environment and agriculture. We focus on using the exact amount of water needed for each crop through different types of irrigation. Our newest form of irrigation is drip irrigation which reduces our applied water between 30-50% depending on the crop. While drip irrigation has many benefits, it does require additional power demands to pressurize the water to push it through the filters and drip lines. In response to this we built solar fields designed to offset our power usage to a sustainable resources. #bowlesfarm #ag #aglife #solar #renweableenergy

With over 160 years of farming in California we understand the importance of our roles as stewards of resources and the importance of responsible #agriculture. So while buzzwords and trends seem to come and go, our enduring philosophy centers around stewardship. We have a profound connection to our people, community, our soil, and our environment. Bowles Farming company is growing its #habitat footprint and ensuring a healthier landscape; we are harvesting #renewableenergy from the sun to help supply our energy needs; and we are working to preserve and build two of agriculture’s most precious resources. #bowlesfarming #aglife #ag #habitat #solar #water #soil

Our operations are adjacent to much of theGrasslands Wildlife Management Area, a Ramsar Wetlands of International Importance. The Bowles wetlands are part of this greater wetland complex, an honor which we take very seriously. We continue to work with our conservation partners to actively manage our wetland habitats to maximize value for waterfowl and other migratory birds that depend on them. Our cotton fiber is tagged at the source using cutting edge bio-technology, allowing us to proudly state that our product is comprised of extra long staple Pima cotton. Once the cotton is harvested it’s rolled and sent for distribution. This roll will one day be turned into bedding and towels! #bowlesfarming #aglife #pimacotton #elscotton

We embrace our role as stewards of both our managed and natural systems. Our wildlife conservation roots proliferate into California’s early statehood when Henry Miller’s team discovered the State’s last remaining Tule Elk herd and took action to protect it. His efforts to preserve the last individuals of the species set the stage for the return of the Tule Elk and built a foothold for recovery. Today there is a promising outlook for a climbing population of approximately 4,000 individuals, largely due to continued efforts by state and federal wildlife management agencies. In this challenging climate, Bowles Farming team is working diligently to preserve historical ecosystems where possible, restore degraded habitats, and improve the ecological functionality of working lands. #bowlesfarming #ag #aglife #restoration #wildlife #tuleelk

Garlic is a newer crop for Bowles Farming. Garlic is typically planted in fall or early winter and harvested around September. We’ve partnered with Olam and Christopher Ranch. @olam_international offers garlic in a wide range of products from minced to powdered and @thechristopherranch is the largest grower, packer and shipper a fresh California heirloom garlic. We are proud to be partnered with both companies. #bowlesfarming #aglife #garlic #olaminternational #christopherranch

Soil is where it all starts, it’s the basis of a crop’s future. We focus on building organic matter in our soil and are exploring more ways our farm can sequester carbon to help offset climate impacts. #bowlesfarming #aglife #ag #soil

Alfalfa is a perennial crop so it grows year round and is harvested multiple times a year. A swather, which is pretty much an industrial sized lawnmower, is used to harvest alfalfa in rows 3 to 5 feet wide. It’s then left to dry in the sun and then raked and gathered into bales. Most alfalfa is grown right here in the San Joaquin Valley and Southern California and is mostly used as feed in the dairy and cattle industry for a protein rich diet. #bowlesfarming #aglife #alfalfa #ag #farm #harvest

We’re nearing the end of tomato season! Our tomatoes are harvested for processing and fresh market; processing tomatoes are harvested red and ripe to preserve their flavor and are quickly transported where they will be canned, dehydrated, or turned into tomato paste. Fresh market tomatoes get harvested while still green so they can handle transportation throughout the valley and ripen during their journey. #bowlesfarming #aglife #tomatoes #farm #ag #food @tomatowellness
