GODIVA SAYS "HAPPY NATIONAL CAT DAY"
BOO!! Halloween is just around the corner. Here are some helpful tips to keep your pets safe........ 1-Don't feed your pets Halloween candy, especially if it contains chocolate or xylitol(a sugar substitute) 2-Make sure your pets' tags and collars are on in case they get out when you open the door. Check that your microchip is registered! 3-Candles and jack-o-lanterns should be kept out of reach!... 4-Make sure, if you plan to put a costume on your pet they like it, is a comfortable and proper fit, doesn't interfere with their vision or hearing and doesn't have any chewable pieces. Get them used to it before Halloween. 5-Best to keep your pets safely away from trick or treaters as they may be frightened by strangers and/or afraid of the costumes 6-Find a treat for your pet too and have them enjoy Halloween too! ********SHARE YOUR PETS' HALLOWEEN PHOTOS******** See more

What would you take with you in the event of a fire? If you have pets, they’re probably high on your list. The effects of a fire whether caused by natural or human factors can be devastating, and animals are especially vulnerable. While we can’t always prevent the unexpected, we can take steps to create a disaster plan that includes pets. Since the only way to minimize damage in the wake of a disaster is to prepare, Here are some tips on how to keep pets safe. Have a safe...ty plan Include your animals in your family’s disaster plan. If you have multiple pets, assign each family member responsibility of an individual animal. Display a pet rescue sticker. The first thing that firefighters will see is your front or back door, and depending on whether you’re home when a fire happens, the firefighters may not have any way of knowing that there are pets inside. An easy and cheap preventative measure is to use pet rescue stickers that alert rescue personnel that there are animals in the home. You can attach these stickers to a visible window or the front door. Keep your pet carrier handy. If you are home when an emergency occurs, make sure you know where your pet carrier is located so that you can evacuate quickly. This will be crucial to transport your pet safely, especially when fire trucks or ambulances arrive and pets may become alarmed by the noise and volume of activity that will likely surround them. Have a petbag that includes things such as medications, leashes, food, water and bowls. Add items as you see fit, such as: a can opener for canned food, a current picture of your pet in case they get lost, toys and a bed, plastic bags for pet waste. Always make sure that your pet is wearing the proper identification. Emergencies are scary for humans imagine how overwhelming they are for pets! In the case that your pet does run away out of fear, making sure their collar has a current address and phone number is the best first step in finding them and bringing them back to you. Remember there are many precautions and steps that you can take to keep your family and pets safe. Boulevard Pet Hospital hopes that you and your family pets included continue to stay safe, healthy and out of danger during this crisis.
GODIVA SAYS... Duncanville Grads Find Purrfect Story in Cat Named Luna (The House Kitty is the story of Diana's real-life cat Luna)... Two friends in the Duncanville High School Class of 2020 had something good happen the other day. They can now call themselves "published authors!" Diana Reyes and Kelly Gutierrez wrote and illustrated a bilingual children's book during their senior year. It placed fifth in a state competition, then got first place in a national contest. Now comes the next chapter. Their book called #TheHouseKitty is now available in paperback on Amazon.com. The House Kitty is the story of Diana's real-life cat Luna. Diana says Luna is quite adventurous but she used to be, well, a scaredy-cat. She finally learned life is more fun when you get out of your comfort zone. And, that's the lesson Diana and Kelly want to teach in their book. You never know you’ll like something unless you take that risk," Diana said. "I also connected that idea to when kids enter school for the first time. Tantrums and timidness take over because they don’t know what to expect. By reading this book, I hope they can learn to break through that barrier." And in this back to school season, the friends who are future educators hope the story of Luna inspires kids to practice finding new and fun journeys. A news release from Duncanville ISD says Diana and Kelly earned their Educational Aide I certifications from the State of Texas while studying education in Duncanville High School’s Career and Technical Education program. They both intend to study education in college with plans to become teachers. Kelly became interested in education because she believes knowledge is power and enjoys the idea of sharing that knowledge with her future students. Diana says she hopes to change a child's life every day. By Deborah Ferguson
