What is smudging? Smudging is a Native American custom ceremony. For centuries, the smoke produced during the smudging ceremony has been used to cleanse the aura, the energy around us and energy is the space. Blowing on the smudge stick or mixture is not advised as it is believed your own negative energy is being blown into the elements.. The feather is believed to hold the spirit qualities that connects us with the heavens and mother Earth. The feather is used to help waft the smoke as it works as a filter to cleanse the energy and remove aura blockages.
