Every year, we honor one student with our Best Student of the Year award, and this year a big Congratulations goes out to Ahmedina! Ahmedina Smajlovi, was born in Srebrenica. She obtained her B.A. in Social Work at the University of Tuzla and thus acquired the title of a social worker. Within the Student Council at the Faculty of Philosophy, Ahmedina acted as the President and as a member of the Scientific-Teaching Council of the Faculty of Philosophy. For the past six ...years, she was engaged in the implementation of various humanitarian projects, as well as youth projects. She independently launched a project for the elderly for home visits and a project to support children battling cancer. With the support from Bosana Foundation, she organized several workshops for students at the Faculty of Philosophy, as well as marking the day of Pink T-shirts. Ahmedina is currently completing an internship at the Public Institution Educational Center TK. By the decision of the Senate at the University of Zenica, she acquired the scientific-teaching title of assistant in the field of Social Work and Social Policy. On September 29, 2021, she obtained a master's degree in social work and plans to continue her doctoral studies. "For me, Bosana is the best example of support in personal growth and development of each student. Coming to Bosana can be described as the beginning of a personal process in which you hone yourself to the finest details and where you ultimately become a person that can later continue to fulfill his/her own goals thanks to the foundation that was built while being a Bosana student, said Ahmedina. Together with our students we celebrate their successes. Esma Kosumi is Bosana's former student who recently launched the cjenolov.ba platform together with her husband. As a first price comparison website in BiH, Cjenolov is on a mission to offer an online platform to consumers that would encourage them to make wise decisions and save money while navigating the jungle of retailers, stores, and products. "We fully believe that Cjenolov will spark a true digital revolut...ion, create a positive vibe on the BiH market and drive webshops to build reliable, safe, and modern shopping experiences for their customers. I am happy that I can work with my husband, side by side, and that together we are developing such a big thing. We are at the very beginning of this adventure called Cjenolov. As of today we only cover the popular "Mobile Phones" category, but the goal is to cover all product categories from every webshop around Bosnia and Herzegovina", said Esma. Recently, we announced our Bosana Scholarship students for 2021/2022. Since we had 125 applications with 16 students that we could take in, we decided to do two webinars with a focus on ''Successful professional communication and presentation through the application'. In this webinar, attendees have the opportunity to learn what they need to pay attention to when applying for a scholarship, volunteering, or employment. Sanel was always an inquisitive student full of ideas and wanting to do so much while also going to college. It's no surprise that he also wanted to experience studying abroad while a student. Almost every year, we have students who chose to partake in the Erasmus + study program in the countries of the European Union. This year, Sanel Novalic went to Spain, to the University of Lleida to study software engineering for one semester. When needed, we help our students with ...costs associated with visas, travel, or whatever they need to be able to afford this life-changing experience. Our last Bosana Board Member that we want you to meet is Damir Koro who brings business management, marketing and finance experience with hopes to grow Bosana programs and help as many students in Bosnia achieve their dreams of attaining higher education, improving their personal lives and helping prosperity in Bosnia. He was born in Sarajevo and moved to United States in 1994. He currently lives in Orange County area near Los Angeles with his family. Damir holds MBA and ...Masters degrees in Engineering from University of Washington in Seattle. He has been working in engineering and business technology management roles for over 2 decades. Zlata Gleason is Bosana Board Member committed to raise the Foundation's brand awareness abroad and to help raise funds that support our students and the scholarship programs. Originally from Sarajevo, Zlata has been living in the United States since 1999 when she arrived to Boston to attend Wellesley College. Zlata was lucky enou...gh to receive scholarship to attend Wellesley College, the experience which absolutely transformed her life and enabled her to have personal and professional opportunities she would have not otherwise had. She hopes to make similar impact to Bosana students by helping them financially but also through mentoring them and working with them on their personal and professional development. Zlata spent almost a decade working at Morgan Stanley in London and New York and currently heads up client advisory group at Indus Capital Partners, an alternative asset management firm in New York City. She hopes to apply her fundraising and consultative skills to the Foundation, and is very proud to serve on its Board. Every day people behind Bosana do their best to help marginalized youth of Bosnia and Herzegovina build better future. That's why we want you to meet them. Sejla Holland is Bosana Board Member and she is responsible for Fundraising and Development outreach. She brings commitment that grew from her memories as a child growing up in the beautiful city of Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Walking the silk stones of the historic Stari Most bridge in Mostar with her childhood f...riends, and then watching those same friends and families torn, like her country, by needless and devastating anguish has only increased her love for humanity. Her experiences have allowed her to move from despair, to hope, to action for all children mercilessly touched by the war. Being a refugee has shaped her values and beliefs, as well as her gratitude for a new life in America. Sejla lends experience from her successful business career to Bosana Foundation by helping to secure substantial pledges and continuous support for the children Bosana Foundation helps. Bosana gives you the purpose and forever changes your life whether you are a student or supporter - you will be rallied around that purpose, said Seila. Persistence pays off! Yet another testament to the truthfulness of these words is former Bosana student Denis Smajic. We are proud to share with you some great news! Denis has been employed at the position of the Molecular Diagnostic in the Microbiology Department of Cantonal Hospital Dr. Irfan Ljubijankic in Bihac. In July 2019, Denis completed Master studies in Biology and Genetics at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematic in Sarajevo. After he obtained his... diploma, Denis has worked tirelessly to find employment in his profession by sending application to various positions across the B&H, unfortunately with no positive feedback. But most importantly, Denis never gave up. His free time Denis used to enhance his experience and to work as a photographer managing to secure certain income for himself. In March 2020 following the pandemic outbreak, Denis addressed Cantonal hospital and offered to volunteer and contribute as much as he is capable within his profession. He believed that fight against the virus is a joint effort within capabilities and expertise. At that time Denis did not receive any feedback. But today, almost two years later and after an active and persistent pursuit of employment, Denis’s dream come true. Congratulations Denis! We would like to congratulate Adi for starting a new position as Physical Therapist Intern at Hospital "Stari Grad" Mostar. You might remember that in December we announced that Adi received a Golden Plaque as a student of his generation. Well, in January we are even more proud to be able to announce that Adi has been employed in his field of work. We cannot hide our enthusiasm for our students and their resourcefulness to find the best for themselves.
