Book Denizen seeks a home. One of our booksellers is looking for a rental for two to six months, or possibly permanent. A studio or similar preferred. If you have any leads, please email [email protected]. Thanks, Eric
Buy them books so they know it's real. @BookSoup #ShopIndie
The Best of Santa Barbara results are out and once again we at the Book Den are runners-up to our friendly rivals, Chaucer's Books. Local businesses are grateful for the support we receive from the community, but less visible (and just as important) is the support Santa Barbara businesses give to each other. This is what Chaucer's had to say on the subject: "We believe locally owned businesses are part of the rich fabric of our community, but in these times, they require all of our support to help them survive and thrive again, said GM Greg Feitt. If you love a place, support it! Our literary community is of particular importance to us, and we encourage you to support The Book Den, Tecolote, Lost Horizon, Mesa Books, and Metro Entertainment, to name just a few.
Chevalier’s Books, in Larchmont Village, joins Vroman's in Pasadena on the endangered list.
Vroman's Bookstore in Pasadena is one of the few bookstores in California older than the Book Den. The Covid-19 pandemic has been very hard on them, with sales down 40%. If you live in the Los Angeles area, or know people who do, please consider shopping at Vroman's or ordering books from them. It's frightening that the people who are really good at bookselling are having a tough time. https://www.shelf-awareness.com/issue.html?issue=3834#m50011
A happy ending to one of the largest book thefts in history. "Rare books stolen in London heist found under floor in Romania."

From today's Shelf Awareness blog: A recent advertisement for Book Off, a popular used bookstore chain in Japan encouraged customer to sell them their used books. Staff "list off the kinds of books customers might have in their home that they could sell." The types of books start off ordinary, like, 'Books you've read already' or 'Books that won't fit on the book shelf.' But as more and more types of books are listed off, they get funnier and funnier. 'Books left behind by th...e girlfriend you forgot about!' 'Books you thought would make you look cool!' 'Books someone could not stop talking about but didn't interest you at all!' 'Books you still didn’t read even though you were stuck at home!' Since Japan is so far away, Santa Barbarans might consider selling such books to the Book Den instead.
