Here is an excerpt from the 1921-1923 chapter in the "Scholastic Encyclopedia of the Presidents." It made me reflect on technology making a postive impact, and reminded me of where we started 100 years ago. "Women's Work - The development of the typewriter gave women new opportunities in the workplace. For female high school graduates, secretarial work became an attractive alternative to traditional women's work such as teaching and nursing. It was also far less backbreaking than farm or factory work, Soon huge "pools" of neat young women clattered away at manual typewriters in city offices nationwide. By 1930, there were eleven million women in the work force, more than double the number in 1900.
