mas informacion... compartan OVERVIEW OF DEFERRED ACTION FOR PARENTS (DAP) The President announced one new program, expanded another, and made a lot of changes that will make immigration enforcement more humane and smarter. The new program is called Deferred Action for Parents (DAP).... Under DAP, the undocumented parents of United States Citizens or Legal Permanent Residents (green card holders) can register with the government and get work authorization if they came to the U.S. before January 1, 2010. The work authorization will be valid for 3 years. This new program has the potential to change the lives of up to 4.1 million people. WHO IS ELIGIBLE? You are eligible to apply for Deferred Action for Parents (DAP) if: Were unlawfully present in the U.S. on November 20, 2010; Have continuously resided in the U.S. since before January 1, 2010; Have a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident child who was born on or before November 20, 2010; Have not been convicted (as an adult) of a felony, significant misdemeanor, more than two other misdemeanors, and don’t otherwise pose a threat to national security or public safety; And pass a background check WHEN CAN I APPLY? You cannot apply now. The government hasn’t set a date yet, but it will not be any later than mid-May. Check back here to find out if a date has been set. The government will explain how to apply and what you need sometime before then. Check back here for more details as they emerge. Do not be fooled by people who tell you they can help you apply before then, you may be the victim of immigration or notario fraud. COST TO APPLY The application fee will be $465, which includes a $380 fee for the employment authorization application and a $85 fee for fingerprints. There will likely be fee exemptions, but based on the experience with DACA they will only be granted in very limited circumstances. GET READY While you cannot apply yet, you can do the following to begin to prepare for your application: Gather documents that show identity Gather documents that show relationship to a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident child; Gather documents that demonstrate continued residence in the U.S. for the last five years or more
