The Mantis This BlueROV2, appropriately named the Mantis (explanation to follow), is the robot child of Marine Applied Research and Exploration - MARE. MARE is a nonprofit organization using their robotic fleet to explore and document deep-water ecosystems in support of their conservation and management. To date, they have mapped over 2,700 kilometers of seafloor off California’s coast alone! Here is the story behind the name:... "The Mantis Shrimp is a brightly-colored, fierce predator. It has one of the fastest punches in the animal kingdom, which allows them to feast on hard-shelled invertebrates and some fish! This punch is even powerful enough to break through aquarium tanks. And they are thought to have the most complex eyes in the animal kingdom allowing them to detect not just visible, but ultraviolet and polarized light."

Helloooo, Bruce. Recorded by Dr. Vincent Raoult and Prof. Troy Gaston, this footage was taken with the The University of Newcastle, Australia's BlueROV2 during a shark feed at Norfolk Island! Dr. Raoult identified these sharks as Galapagos Whalers, explaining they have "learned to associate regular fish processing with an easy meal and have done so for decades."... For the lone wolf. Created by SEABER, YUCO is a high performance, low maintenance, micro-AUV and is designed to meet the specific needs of oceanographic researchers. Rated to 300m, YUCO can run autonomously for up to ten hours and only weighs about 20 lbs, making it super easy for a single person to operate and travel with!

All aboard! Bodekull, also known as the Dalarö wreck, is one of the world’s best preserved 17th-century wrecks. Lying near Edesön island off Dalarö, the ship sank in 1678 on its way to provide flour to the Swedish Navy. The 20m ship was discovered in 2003 with 6 gun ports, two masts still standing, and many other objects including pottery, glass bottles, tools, and hand weapons. In this photo, the BlueROV2, operated by our friends at Dykcharter vrakdykning, is documentin...g marine archeologists diving on the wreck site! If you are not already familiar with Dykcharter, they are a really neat company offering wreck diving tours out of Sweden. Check out the footage from the BlueROV2 here: https://youtu.be/Psh8klQ0O-U Editing: Jim Hansson, Wreck Museum of Wrecks.

Stay salty, my friends. Our friends and distributors in Israel, Astral Subsea, have been conducting salt-crystal camera tests at the bottom of the Dead Sea. This is their first test of an upgraded observations system that will shoot a time-lapse for a week of salt-crystals growing at the bottom of the sea! Last week they tested focus abilities of their camera and lens; next they will be testing depth! Who else has had the opportunity to explore the Dead Sea?!

Device Connected Communicating underwater has been and will always be a prioritized topic of interest in our industry. Although we have acoustic, radio, and wired communication options, all have their limitations with much room for improvement. However, Hydromea is making waves with their innovative solution: an underwater modem that communicates through light. This modem (called LUMA) converts data into light pulses, giving you a quick, wireless, underwater connection. LU...MA is rated to 6000m and can send and receive signals up to 50m away using pulses of blue light which diffuse at a much slower rate than other waves, such as the red and yellow waves of the sun. What is an estuary? Estuaries are partially enclosed bodies of water where freshwater river runoff mixes with the saltwater of the ocean. They are among the most biologically productive areas on earth, sustaining a diverse biological community of plants and animals. There are more than 100 estuaries along the coast of the United States. Join us tomorrow through Thursday for the 2020 National Coastal and Estuarine Virtual Summit (Restore America's Estuaries) where you can ...network, share, and hear from experts on the latest in coastal restoration and management. We will have a booth available to visit all week and we will be in there for discussion this Wednesday from 8-10am PT! https://estuaries.org/summit/registration/

Friends are the family we choose. We have always viewed our community of distributors as a treasured extension of the Blue Robotics family. They bring invaluable knowledge, innovation, support, and service to our team and we wouldn't be the company we are today without them. If you are unfamiliar with our distributors (or even if you are), please check out our latest blog post, "Top 5 Reasons to Purchase from a Blue Robotics Distributor" for an inside look at the work... they do and the value they may bring to you. https://bluerobotics.com/benefits-of-purchasing-through-a-/ : (Six Voice, Japan)
