Today's master class, I copied Qian Songyan's "Lushan Trail." Figure 2 is a print that I bought at Xinhua Bookstore in 1974 when I first started to learn painting in junior high school. It has been collected with other teachers' authentic works and carried to the states in 1987.

Today I taught the the first lesson of the "Memories of Home" series of Asian brush painting Zoom class hosted by the Brooklyn Public Library in New York. Nearly 250 people attended and painted Qian Songyan's Taishan pine with me online. After class, I saw a piece of paper on the ground. From a distance, I thought it was a copy of master Qian's painting that had fallen from the printer. Close up, it was Victoria's in class exercises. Her experience is that there must be a big... picture in her mind when painting. This is what the art teacher emphasizes the most: "Look at the big picture and draw the big picture". In Victoria's words, "think of the whole picture and painted it out roughly". Not only Victoria, but many foreign students also painted well and gave good feedback.
