How are your plant babies doing? We know that the sudden changes in temperature can cause some distress so here are some tips for Winter plant care: 1. Ease up on watering. Some plants will need less water as the balance of dryness in the soil changes in the cold months. Check your soil by sticking your finger at least one to two inches down and if it is still wet on your normal watering day we advise giving some more time to dry in between watering. Get your hands dirty! ... You can't always tell just by looking. 2. Give them plenty of light. The days are getting shorter and less sunlight is available and your plants are feeling it. Find creative ways to display them in other areas of your home to ensure they are getting enough light. 3. Temperature is key. Imagine you're sitting on a cold stone chair near a drafty window - BRRRR! Keep in mind that your comfort level and your plant levels can be very similar. Keep plants away from drafts as well as heat sources like furnaces, too much in any one direction is no good. 4. Does the cold of winter dry out your skin? Plants feel it too! Most indoor plants prefer more humidity for an ideal environment. Some plant owners like to help by misting their plants with spray bottles, but unless you mist a few times a day, it's probably making you feel better than the plant itself. If you can invest in a humidifier then go for it! Otherwise another budget friendly way would be to put trays of water near or under your plants.
