Black Bottom Southern Kitchen is celebrating a year of Black Love! Actors Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis met in 1946, performing in a Broadway play, married in 1948, and had three children. The legendary duo went on to star in 11 plays together, like the original Broadway production of Lorraine Hansberry's "A Raisin in the Sun" and over 50 movie productions, together & separately, like Spike Lee’s "Do The Right Thing". In addition to acting, Dee and Davis were civil rights activist...s and personal friends of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X. Together, they fought for equal rights for Blacks on and off-camera. True pioneers, they were also honest about experimenting with an "open marriage" in their book, " With Ossie and Ruby" co-authored by the pair. They concluded that sexual indiscretions don't destroy marriages but lies and deception do. That by being "brutally honest" they grew as individuals and as a couple. Dee & Davis were a formidable force within Black culture. Their legacy will forever be their influence on entertainment and social justice.
