FRIDAY BRIEFING THE CONTENT OF YOUR CHARACTER This week seemed to go by quick, although rather uncomfortably since I am nursing a shoulder injury. It’s distracting and takes away some of my energy. But I digress A busy week nonetheless as we launched our new Bixby Business Profiles. Tom Underhill has been reaching out to businesses for photos that capture the look and feel of anxiety felt by the owners. It gets heightened as the restrictive health orders continue. Thes...e features are to express how serious the impact is on our local community and to all business owners. We are providing you a quick look at WHO they are, WHERE to find them, WHAT they are known for, and HOW you can support them. We do lean on you all pretty hard to keep the district afloat, but we do know, and have often seen, the true content of the character of Bixby Knolls. Happy 13th Anniversary to our Bixby Knolls Strollers. This was the first new program we started 13 years ago to bring people together and reconnect with the business corridors. As of this Saturday, we will have walked the distance from Bixby Knolls to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It’s a feat (feet) I am quite proud of. The new Bixby Heart is in production and will be made available next week. In 2020 you had teddy bear hunts; for the 2021 kick-off we ask that you show your neighborhood pride by displaying the 11x11 heart on your door or window, all before Valentine’s Day. You can get one for FREE just for purchasing something at participating locations. All of this will be shared with you soon. And after MLK Day, we will scheme even further on the February Fifth First Fridays Mardi Gras Trolley Parade. Anyone want to become a Float House like they are doing in New Orleans. Alsace Lorraine Bakery, 4334 Atlantic Avenue Alsace Loraine has been a staple business for 63 years, first opening in 1958. Located at 4334 Atlantic Avenue, just down the street from their original location. The current owners have been at it 18 years in Bixby Knolls. Muny Giang and her husband are the owners and have been running the whole operation after laying off several employees--Their day starts at 4:00am doing everything from baking in the early morning hours to selli...ng later into the day. Favorite items are the custom cakes for any occasion but the big seller is the Chocolate Chews Cookies which always sell out quickly every day. They are very thankful to the local area residents for helping them through this time and wouldn’t be here without them. Making cakes and pastries for local businesses was a big part of the business and that has taken a big hit during COVID. That would mean that the following Thursday would be New Year’s Eve and 2021 would be here. Can you believe it? I mean, March lasted forever and I don’t know when summer came and went. 2020 was certainly the longest decade of my life. Last year at this time we were gearing up for 500 kids to attend the Noon Year’s Eve event3 chaotic hours... inside the Expo Arts Center. Now only the echoes of the doors closing can be heard. Which one of you sent me this anonymous poem? ‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the place Was the sound of M-80s and the cars that can race. There is still much to do before the holidays and we will keep providing you with the intel of all the good things to take advantage of to get you, and our businesses, through it all until the calendar page is turned.
