Saturday we are hosting a class on Liquid Biopsy - A new paradigm for cancer detection. In this class, we will cover the following topics: - The core concepts of liquid biopsy. - How rare circulating tumor cells are captured from blood and analyzed. - How tiny amounts of free-floating cancer DNA are characterized in blood by different DNA sequencing methods (CirSeq, UMI, Duplex Sequencing, ...)... - A profile of some of the companies working in this area (PGDx, Guardant Hlth, Grail, ...) - And how this exciting approach is already having an impact in the clinic. Hope to see there! https://www.meetup.com/BioCurious/events/248141014/ See more

Have you ever wondered what sort of projects the High School students at BioCurious work on? We are extremely proud to have the work of Elodie and her mentor (and our Board Member) Eric Espinosa featured in this article. https://blogs.scientificamerican.com//the-rise-of-citizen/ We have a full year of classes we will be announcing soon, with many chances to come in to learn lab techniques.... Already know your way around a lab? We always have a need for mentors to help the many teens who come to BioCurious.

Amazing quality from the Cuttlefish genome. Great JOB TEAM CUTTLEFISH!! We are excited to see the initial data come off the Miseq. We will transfer the run and start the data analysis on the first 1M Tuesday. The photo is a screen capture from the initial run of C3 sample off the Miseq run metrics. IF you want to geek out with us. This number is awesome: Q30 >=90.6% for a 2x 250 BP that means that for 90.6% of the reads have less then one error in 1000bp. Thanks again to our partners Illumina and UCSF to help us get this project off the ground.
