Kinesiology taping to support the carpal tunnel & wrist bones. (Apologies for the blurry pictures) This patient works with their hands for work. They have a history of wrist, forearm, and elbow tightness & pain. When pulling a box off a high shelf, it fell onto their wrist. They had an X-ray done, which showed a scaphoid fracture. We want to be extra careful to treat quickly when this diagnosis is made, because this bone is susceptible to a lack of blood flow. If not addressed & rehabbed, the bone may not fuse & can necroseatrophy or die off. We treated with high powered laser treatment, soft tissue release, and taping to support. The patient is also wearing a soft brace on top of the tape job.

Nice to see messaging from CDC about how to improve health and protect yourself, instead of just fear and anxiety. The best way to protect yourself from infection is to already be in good health by eating healthy foods, moving your body, and having a positive mental outlook.

We tell people all the time that strengthening the foot will help alleviate lots of problems in their bodies. One of the most salient points from this video is to encourage babies/young kids, as well as the elderly, to go barefoot more often or wear minimalist shoes. It will help with their balance, strength, and neurological function. If you or someone else you know could use some help with footwork, let us know!... https://youtu.be/x_rDFa6kZfI

Usually I write something inspirational or health-related on our blackboard, but levity seems more necessary lately.

Mid-back (aka Thoracic Spine) extension over foam roller: help release tension from slumping posture... -lay on the floor with the foam roller under the lower mid-back, and the pelvis remaining on the floor. -cross arms so the shoulder blades move to the sides, out of the way. -use your elbows to lead the spine into extension, minimizing movement in the low back and neck; try to focus the motion into the mid-back only. -work your way up to the upper thoracic spine/top of shoulder blades.

We're here if you need us! Hello to all our valued patients and friends from us at Back in Balance Chiropractic. We’re sure that you are receiving this same type of message from every single business that has access to your contact information, but here’s our public statement regarding Coronavirus and COVID-19 as it pertains to our Chiropractic office’s practices. Alameda County Public Health has issued shelter in place restrictions until April 7th, excepting medical care, ...among other businesses. Medical care is defined as professional treatment for illness or injury. We are professionals, and we treat people’s injuries on a daily basis. Therefore our office will stay open for those who are dealing with sprains, strains, and musculoskeletal pain. We will be taking extra precautions to sanitize and clean our office and the common spaces in our building. We ask that you take precautions as well. If you or anyone in your close vicinity has symptoms of COVID-19 (cough, trouble breathing, and fever) please stay home until you are healthy again. Take your temperature at home if you can. Average adult body temperature is 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit. If your temperature is above 100, please stay home and distance yourself from others. We can reschedule your appointment for a few weeks into the future if that is the case. Our office is around 1,100 square feet, and there are no more than around 6-8 people in the space at maximum at the same time. This week it will be even less, more like 3 or 4 at most. Our office is not a gathering place of many people. We are doing our best to make certain that our office is safe and sanitized. That being said, if you feel the need to cancel or reschedule an upcoming visit we understand. We’ll get through this together! If you have any other concerns/questions feel free to reach out to us. Even though you may be at home, you can still do stretches, exercises, and go outside in your yard or balcony to soak up some sunshine. Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and get enough sleep. We experienced sound healing with singing bowls in a beautiful setting this past weekend, thanks to our guide Joy Evans. Mother Nature provided great weather, waves, and wildlife. Joy's sessions are highly recommended! Very relaxing. #soundhealing #singingbowls #mossbeach

I've given this movement flow to lots of people lately. Not only is this a good drill for opening the hips up, but if it's done slowly and deliberately it will strengthen your hips too (i.e. it's not just for those who are pregnant). Shoutout to BIRTHFIT for making a great video! https://youtu.be/ies6kQ5YQyw #shinbox #shinboxtolunge #hipmobility
