The Multicultural Education for Resource Issues Threatening Oceans Academy Program provided the opportunity for 4th and 5th graders at Mar Vista after school program to go on a study trip to Santa Cruz Island as part of the program curriculum. The goal of MERITO was to enable the students who participated in the program to increase their understanding of ocean issues, promote sustainable living practices, and inspire students correctly underrepresented in STEM fields to pursue careers in marine or environmental science. The study field trip was a success because the majority of the students had never been to a National Park as a result all students were amazed and happy to have had the opportunity to participate in this study trip.
Jr. Achievement is a program designed to educate and inspire young people to succeed in a global economy. This program was a total success at Rio Rosales especially when Miss Grisell implemented the program very well with her 4th grade students. The students who participated in the program this week got into groups and received a resource card which enable them to have access to create their own business. As a result, students had to build their own business and presented to the BGC staff to see if they were interested to invest in their business. All members were proud of their finished business creations.
Rio Rosales after school members experienced the feeling to be engineers in this week's STEAM project. They were divided into groups and were asked to construct a marble roller coaster. They were given a limited amount of materials, had to use critical thinking and construct collaboration to make their creation successful. They had a great time constructing their roller coaster.
Mar Vista's 5th Annual Talent show was a success. BGC---2nd to 5th grade members and staff worked hard to get this show well represented by the Beats of the 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's and 60's. Great Job Mar Vista After School Program.
