We have attorneys reporting to us that the courthouse and courtrooms are packed. I am so proud of Bet Tzedek - The House of Justice and its partners for suing the Los Angeles County Superior Court today to enjoin the Court from continuing to... permit, and in many instances mandate, in-person appearances in unlawful detainer and traffic matters. Over the course of the last three months, litigants and attorneys have had to risk their lives to attend in-person court proceedings. In one instance, a Bet Tzedek client over the age of 70 was required to attend a court hearing, despite Bet Tzedek’s requests to permit the client to appear remotely. See more

Bet Tzedek ERP attorney Kelly McVey was recently interviewed by LAist about the economic challenges unemployed Angelenos face. We are grateful that Congress reached a deal to extend the CARES Act this weekend, providing a lifeline to these individuals. However, our clients are not yet out of the woods, and undocumented Californians remain left without a safety net. As the pandemic goes on, we will continue to fight to make sure that all workers are protected! https://laist.com//unemployment_cliff_california_one_milli

Barrett’s confirmation one week before the election with 58 million votes already cast caps off Trump’s and McConnell’s dramatic reshaping of the federal judiciary over the last four years, and shifts the ideological balance of the Supreme Court to the right, affecting the rights of Americans for decades to come. Uber and Lyft are like every big guy I’ve ever brought down. Prop. 22 doesn’t ‘help’ their drivers it denies them benefits. Twenty-two doesn’t help women it actually weakens sexual harassment laws which are meant to protect them. Uber and Lyft aren’t even required to investigate harassment claims. I agree with the L.A. Times No on 22. Uber and Lyft want all the power. So, show them the real power is you. Vote NO on Prop 22. Gloria Allred opposes Prop 22: It doesn’t help women, it actually weakens sexual harassment laws. Vote NO on Prop 22! https://youtu.be/cUht7Eghvko
