Los Angeles: please join us for a socially distanced, outdoor drive in or walk to screening at Bestor Architecture of "The People's Lawn: Bringing the White House back to the People," presented by Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND) on Inauguration Day, Wednesday, January 20, starting at 5:30 and running continuously until 8:30. All are welcome to this remimaging of the space. "As we continue to collectively process the events of the past week, how can we reimagine our democr...acy? Bettina Hubby has been working on answering this question with her ongoing project, The People’s Lawn: Bringing the White House back to the People. Over the past 6 months, Hubby has invited 45 artists, activists, and healers to reclaim the White House by responding to the question: If the space in front of the White House were given back to the people, what gesture, activity or ritual would you bring to uplift it?" Bestor Architecture, 2030 Hyperion Ave in Los Angeles. The People’s Lawn was orchestrated by Bettina Hubby, filmed and scored by Steven Rimlinger, and produced in VR by Rory Mitchell, The Mercantile. A few more pictures of notorious guests of Self(ie) carethanks to all who got in there with themselves. The first photo is obviously the make-believe guest of honor, Ruth Bader Ginsberg, imagined surrounded by words of strong comfort for her graceful passage and in thanks for her endless gifts. The opportunity to show the work as a part of Maiden L.A. 2020 has been rewarding and playfulgrateful to be involved and am in awe of how many inspiring projects the participating artists created. Thanks to Momed for the sweet spot.

Time for some Self(ie) care! HubbyCo is grateful to be participating in the 2020 edition of Maiden L.A. A self-activated installation is the works and will be ready for your close ups for the run of this citywide annual survey of LA art. (Go to maiden.la.com for their expansive list of artful projects) The uplifting words of Self(ie) care will reframe you via a selfie posemeant to combat the pervading messages of fear, hopelessness and doubt with messages of safety..., wellness, strength, resilience, and calm. The selfie is oftimes associated with egotism, but this selfie is about giving the ego a break. Tell it everything is going to be ok - give it a staycation. Reframe your self(ie) beginning 9/1 through 9/20 at the ATX / Momed courtyard entrance in Atwater Village, and make a reservation for the best patio dining experience in town. Special thanks to Momed for their collaboration! See more

After the last election and the aftermath, I did these rainbow drawings as a metaphor for mankind’s search for meaning in these times. I left the signs blank since the answer was not yet evident what this time of chaos has been about. Yesterday I felt some hope had manifested in physical form in that Kamala Harris was named Biden’s running mate. This powerful female, a woman of color, a woman with dignity, empathy, strength, and compassion, who cares for and stands for us all, has been chosen to rise up for us in November. This is a good sign of change, like finding water in the desert after being without for an agonizingly long time.

I joyously share this new painting completed during lockdown: AGAPE, an homage to Reverend Michael Bernard Beckwith, the renowned and beloved spiritual leader and founder of the Agape Spiritual Center. He is tirelessly dedicated to the up-leveling of mankind’s thoughts and actions and he channels his message with a lightning fast poignancy and wit (and incredible dance moves). As a multi-faith and multi-denominational leader of millions worldwide, Beckwith is a vital resource..., especially right now as America is breaking down the old paradigms and crying for change. It is an honor to pay tribute to the man and the movement he ignites, guiding so many people to shift into better versions of themselves. All quotes in the painting are quotes by The Rev, as he’s affectionately known. AGAPE, Bettina Hubby, 2020. Acrylic on linen with neon colored pencil, 48 x 96 inches, now at home in the Agape headquarters in Beverly Hills. Agape International Spiritual Center Michael Bernard Beckwith See more

Last year I began a new series, White House Lawn, featuring analog and digital collages. In the works I'm playing with the power of our imagination, creating humor-filled visualizations to instigate an alternate future. Everything we’ve created started with a vision. In the series I'm building a hypothetical reality in collage form, based on my dreams for a more stable, peaceful, and just world. Email Bettina at hubbyco dot com for inquiries. Link in bio. HubbyCo salute series continues with Senon Williams, who has been making art that speaks volumes as an anti-racist battlecry; it also contains a heart-opening plea for betterment. As we express this outrage together, we transmute the anger into answers. Follow @senonwill for more of his work and it’s power @ HubbyCo

Thanks Los Angeles Magazine and Marissa Gluck for the shout out about this weekend's Drive-By-Art exhibition! "For artist Bettina Hubby, whose work tends to depend on community engagement and collaboration, this project represents a return to the roots of her practice. I imagine it will be a refreshing shift of focus away from our current predicament as people seek out evidence of creative actsa treasure hunt from the comfort of one’s car, says Hubby." https://www.lamag.com/culturefiles/drive-by-art-los-angeles/

I’ve been seeing some wonderful work being produced during quarantine posted here, and thought I too would share what I’m up to, creatively. Now more than ever I’m interested in how to playfully rewire the brain and alter the experience one can have in life as a result. What you focus on, you create more of kind of thinking. This worldwide event has stoked my desire to enact mantras and messages that shift thoughts away from fear, worry, and doubt into calm introspection, hope, and laughter. I want to repeat and imprint ideas that would be a tonic for the brain and body. I hope you enjoy!
