Favorite coaching questions: I love to ask this one during the first part of a working phase with a more advanced rider. What are they drawing their attention to? What are they trying to change? By getting more clearly into my rider's mindset and focus, I can either help them clarify their current goals or perhaps refocus them onto what I'm seeing is the larger global issue
What does better every ride mean to you?
The KEL team had an amazing time at @pasorobleshorsepark for the last show of the year. It was so fun to step into the ring, learn from the round, and get the opportunity to improve.
Alois Podhajsky, 1965: "In order to explain why the early training stages of a young horse seem to be so long it has to be pointed out that the rider has to c...reate a solid foundation on which he can later build the Haute École as the crowning achievement of his work. Confirming this solid foundation requires the longest time in training - almost two thirds of the overall duration. Then it will be relatively easy for the rider to polish his work of art. The time that is dedicated to the confirmation of this foundation - no matter how long - can never be considered waisted or a loss of time." Painting: Lina Binkele, www.linabinkele.net/paintings.html
Favorite coaching questions: after a student has had a lot of success with a new challenge, how do you help them codify those changes? When I ask this question, I get some really useful answers. After all, being able to speak the language of my student, using words that connect directly to their feel, only helps me coach them more effectively. Tell me, in any challenge you've been having with your horse recently, what's been the difference that has made the difference?
