It’s the first day of #BlackHistoryMonth, and to celebrate I’m sharing an extended trailer for #BlackChurchPBS. The docuseries will debut in a two-night event on Tuesday, February 16 and Wednesday, February 17 on PBS!

#BlackHistoryMonth On March 2, 1955, 15-year-old Claudette Colvin held firmly to her dignity, her convictions, and her seat when an Alabama bus driver ordered her to give up her seat to a White passenger and move to the back of the bus. When Claudette refused, she was arrested. Colvin went on to testify in a court case to challenge bus segregation and won. Appeals eventually made their way to the Supreme Court and led to the end of bus segregation in Alabama. The NAACP, though, decided that a pregnant, unwed teenager wasn't the right face for the civil rights movement. Eventually, the action was recast and repeated by the well respected, Ms. Rosa Parks, but we should never forget the 15-year-old spark that, without organizational support or planning, lit the flame of civil disobedience in Alabama.

Before Rosa Parks, there was 15 year old Claudette Colvin. Claudette refused to move to the back of the bus, nine months before Rosa Parks’ stand that launched the Montgomery bus boycott. She was arrested and thrown in jail, she was one of four women who challenged the segregation law in court. Why was Claudette's heroic act has been forgotten? At the time, the NAACP and other Black organizations felt Rosa Parks made a better icon for the movement than a teenage. Rosa Parks at the time was also the secretary of the NAACP and she was well known and respected and people would associate her with the middle class and that would attract support for the cause. #BlackYouthMatter #blackeducation

1849 Henry "Box" Brown -Mailed himself to freedom from Richmond, Virginia to the Anti Slavery Office in Philadelphia. The delivery took 26hrs & he later became a public speaker and abolitionist. #BlackHistoryMonth

Faith Friday!! Faith simply means believing that something is true, and then committing our lives to it. In the Bible, faith means believing in God, and in what Christ has done for us to make our salvation possibleand then committing ourselves to Him. In other words, faith has two parts to it, and both are equally important. The first part is beliefbelief that God exists, and that He loves us and sent His Son into the world to save us. Faith isn’t a vague hope that God... might exist; it is a definite belief that what the Bible says about Him is true. The Bible says, Without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him (Hebrews 11:6). The second part of faith is commitmenta definite decision not only to believe in our minds that Christ can save us, but to put our lives into His hands and trust Him alone for our salvation. True faith not only believes Christ can save us, but actually trusts Him to do it.
