Los Angeles parents and guardians of kids with type one diabetes, join JDRF, Dr. Beth Braun and Debbie Olsen, CDE Saturday at 9 AM for a parents talk on mental health and diabetes. Both speakers I’ve had type one diabetes for many years, and are excellent role models as well as experts in caring for your child with type one. Diabetes can cause depression and anxiety and people, add in the stress of the pandemic and we are in a mental health crisis. You are not alone in the journey of type one diabetes. Join usAt Clover Park, 2600 Ocean Park Blvd., Santa Monica. We will be sitting outside and talking openly about being a parent with type one diabetes in your family. We are acknowledging invisible illnesses this week, and the warriors who keep going each day. There is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed of with type one diabetes, but so many of us hide it. Hide the mental struggles we deal with on a daily basis. Hide the equipment we have to wear, or the tools we have to carry. Feel burdened by the fluctuating blood sugars any emotions that go with it. Do you feel like a burden to others? Or do others make you feel this way? How do y...ou handle your self care? How do you handle the conversation with new friends and dates? I have lived with type 1 for 46 years. As a young child I never had to hide it. But as a teen, college student and young adult I definitely tried to. It had a huge impact on my self-esteem and on my physical health. I have had boyfriends tell me how annoying my diabetes is. I had one boyfriend yell at me for waking him up at night eating candy with a low blood sugar. Let’s take a week and celebrate how well we are doing, and how much we put up with. Let us acknowledge that we are warriors.#invisableillness #invisableillnesswarrior #invisableillnessweek2021 #diabetes #diabetesawareness #diabeteswarrior #type1diabetes #type1ofakind #typeonegative #t1dlookslikeme #t1dlife #t1dmom #t1dcommunity #t1diabetesawareness #t1dproblems #t1dyoudontsee #t1dm #dexcomg6 #omnipoddash #omnipodsquad #tandemdiabetes #jdrfonewalk #medtronicdiabetes
