Laying the foundation of trust, engagement and relationship using what motivates puppy Duke the most: FOOD (his kibble) and FUN PLAY (tug) (fetch) and mentally challenging confidence building exercises all while he’s around new people and with DeWayne in the @dl__training facility. Duke is a great, happy, confident puppy and I can’t wait until we get to recall and then start taking him on the esplanade for more exposure, confidence building and proofing. We want him to WIN ...WIN WIN WIN and get as much exposure and positive association as possible in his formative stages so he is a happy confident boy and when scary things do happen it’s like water off a ducks back, no big deal. We teach everything through command / reinforcer and with the leash and guide and direct before we correct. A dog must have a complete understanding of what we are asking / what is expected of them in each context before we can justifiably use No or leash pressure (any form of pressure) to stop unwanted behavior, especially with puppies. Duke is killing his classes with Laura with flying colors and I can’t wait to see him progress in the kind, confident dog he was always meant to be. Much love to Duke, DeWayne and Laura for leading with love and continuing to teach him the ways of the world little by little. These are baby steps, but they lay the foundation to what makes an amazing balanced adult dog that if family for life... #LOVE, ~ Duke & The #BestBudsDogs team
