February is just around the corner and The School of Theatre has some exciting new classes beginning! Take a peek at a few of the upcoming opportunities for your artistic growth: "Devising/Pitching/Directing" taught by Kate Cherry BEGINS MONDAY 2/1 (6 WEEKS) *This class will empower you to take on your big ideas, and wild dreams, preparing you to develop your ideas, process and pitch in development arms throughout the U.S. and Australia.... "Creating Story" taught by Rebecca Stockely & Christian Roman BEGINS SATURDAY 2/6 (2 WEEKS) *In this workshop you will explore ways of creating stories through interactive improv games. Engaging in a variety of activities, the group will work together to tell new stories collaboratively, enhance story building skills, and take-home activities for co-creating stories. "Screenwriting" taught by Christopher Morrison BEGINS SATURDAY 2/20 (5 WEEKS) *If you have the idea that you believe will make the next great film or TV series, it’s time to learn the ins and outs of screenwriting! Spend five weeks learning structure, dialogue, form, and how to make your characters believable and leap off the page. (Colum) Embody your speeches with the right postures; know the secrets orators have used since Diogenes spoke to the Roman caucus; learn the technique actors studied in the 1870s, before Stanislavsky. Discover Francois Delsarte and the art of the pose! Begins 12/5 Physical Theatre: Mastering Fixed Point (Colum) Isolated, but not lonely! Discover how fixed point is more than just a mime tool. Fixed point (more commonly referred to by the French word pointe fixe) is a simple, timeless idea: the actor uses his body to keep a point motionless in space. An actor can create illusions using this technique, but they can also use this technique for fixed points in emotion or character. It’s fascinating! Find out how! In this quick two-hour workshop, bring your own monologue and we’ll discover the many uses of fixed pointseriously, no touching! Begins 12/7 Alexander Technique for Mind/Body Balance (Elyse) Alexander Technique is a time-honored method used by actors to improve posture, breath, and movement. Effective movement liberates your acting skills and enriches your life. As you stop responding to the world in a habitual manner, new avenues of physical ease and creativity open up. Let your body’s physical genius emerge! Begins 12/12 Gesture, Sound, and Speech: What Do I Do with My Hands?(Colum) Practicing social distancing? Let gestures help you clearly send information across long distances. Did you know there are six types of gesture? Each type can help the actor (or anyone) modify and intensify their speech in incredible ways. Work with your own monologue and discover how gesture can illuminate what you say.
