Meet Erin Rairdan, a sophomore studying Microbial Biology. Besides being a talented product designer and Berkeley Innovation consultant, she's also an amazing artist swipe to see some of her work! What makes Berkeley Innovation special? "It's kind of funny, because almost every designer I've met seems to have found their passion for design through a realization that whatever they were doing before isn't really what they wanted to do with their life. But that's also wh...at makes BI and the design community as a whole so special --- we come from so many different backgrounds and mindsets that working together allows us to build beautiful, multidimensional creations and every interaction with each other teaches us something new." Why do you design? "I think a lot about the aspect of immortality that comes with being a designer. While most people will never know the names or faces of the people who design their favorite shoes, logos, or social media platforms, I like the idea that the things we design have the potential to live on as our anonymous legacy. I promise I'm not in it for the fame if I was, I wouldn't be trying to be a designer. I just want to be able to say, "Hey, I made that!" and know that I've been able to influence peoples' lives for the better because of it." Our ultimate goal is to create a space to discuss meaningful ideas and ask critical questions in a way that’s low stakes, fun, and inclusive.

Featuring another one of our clients from spring 2020: EHDD! EHDD is an architecture firm based in San Francisco that seeks to engage in and shape the directions of sustainability and the human experience in the architecture, design, and planning spaces. Our consultants on this project sought to explore ways of leveraging the free space present in every architectural project to encourage collisions chance encounters, open participation, and spontaneous engagement, and what design decisions can facilitate and elevate these encounters. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, their project pivoted into taking these principles online and encouraging digital dialogue. We’re resuming our member spotlight series! Meet Dylan Lew, a senior studying Sustainable Environmental Design who joined us Spring Semester 2020. As a kid, I would always be tinkering in the garage on some new project. Whether it was altering IKEA furniture or building something new, I would be so in the zone that I would skip dinner. I think my love for being creative and hands on led me to design. I’m always excited about making something new. Check out the full read on our Medium page @ berkeley-innovation!

If you have questions about recruitment, the club, or just want to chat with some members, feel free to join! We'll be sending out updates there in addition to our social media to keep yall in the loop(chat... haha...).
