Orthodontics is both an art and a science. This young lady’s smile was completely transformed in 16 months. We were able to reduce the gumminess of her smile, and performed some minor tooth recontouring to achieve an ideal macro and micro aesthetic outcome. If you’ve been a patient of mine, you’ve probably heard me say it - livin’ the dream... I say it so frequently, that my previous staff in Oregon bedazzled this sweet denim jacket with the cliche’ emblazoned on the back and presented it to me for Christmas! The dream has changed for me since the time this photo was taken. It’s much simpler, more grounded, and not filled with as much hubris as it was back then. It’s not said as much tongue in cheek any longer, but really as an embodiment of the way I feel about how lucky I am to be where I am in life, and to be loved by those closest to me.

One of the most frequent questions I’m asked is, when should I bring my son/daughter in for an evaluation? The American Association of Orthodontists recommends an orthodontic evaluation by age 7. Why? Because certain problems are best treated as soon as they are diagnosed in order to modify and redirect growth. This patient presented with an anterior crossbite (underbite), and transverse maxillary deficiency (narrow palate) which was causing a gum defect of the lower... front teeth.
