Three years ago I launched a dream. It started small, the way dreams do - just me, a table & a room. Three years later Beehive has become a family - and we’ve moved in together! This family has learned, in record time, how to love and support each other through adversity. Sometimes we’re crying on each other’s shoulders before the doors open. Sometimes we’re sharing our quiet hopes with each other long after the last customer has gone. It’s been a trial by fire, but this team... is my greatest accomplishment. a covid wax update: beehive will no longer be providing any waxing services on the face (EXCEPT BROWS). due to the rise in covid cases, i have made the tough decision to no longer provide these services. y’all, i’m nervous. the numbers are rising, people are gathering for holidays, and i want to stay healthy so i can continue to provide for my family. ... beehive will continue to be a place you can count on for an awesome SAFE service. Allow me to reintroduce myself! For all the new folx showing up around here: my name is Katie Marks, owner, head waxer & queen mother of Beehive Waxing. When I’m not soothing your ingrowns, I’m hanging out with my partner Matt, my pup babes Gretchen & Roy, and crying to the new Taylor Swift album. I can’t welcome you into the space I’ve carefully curated for you just yet, but I’d like you to know a bit about us before you do. I’ve been waxing for 10 years, and throug...hout those years I gathered my own values about how I wanted to run my own space in the future. As someone who experiences anxiety myself around receiving any new service or procedure, it was important to me to create a consistent, educational place that you could rely on - a safe space away from home where your body, your insecurities, your gender identity, and your whole self was welcome, held & listened to. While I had never vocalized those values before, as I brought on your fave @beehivewaxing_rachel, I started to hear myself put them into words for the first time. As she became empowered in this space and we grew, it became important to me to continue to gather folx into our hive that could be empowered by being here & would act on those same values with their clients. That’s how I chose @taylornailedit, @graceaestheticspc, @beehivewaxing_yvonne & @hannahpaasch. I’m so excited to see your faces, to hold you in the warm energy of our space, to provide you with quality services & empower you to feel at home in your body. Hello Beehive family. Governor Newsom just shut down all personal care services & hair salons & barbershops, which unfortunately, means US. We know what a challenge it has been to get back into see us & we have been overjoyed to see as many of you daily as we could these past three weeks. With that said, we will be canceling our books on a week by week basis, and will be recording ALL current appointments so that, whenever we are allowed to reopen, we’ll be able to honor the... appointments you’ve already set with us. Thank you so much in advance for your grace & patience as we navigate this new normal. my first two days back have been a rollercoaster. but like, the best rollercoaster. having a soft opening of just hannah and me has been so great. they are settling into their new job. turns out we are a great fucking team (but duh). i’m slowing working my way into seeing 15-20 clients a day again (wow, i’m exhausted). each of y’all are so excited to see our new space (which is cute in comparison to how anxious y’all are about getting waxed again). ... the space is finally starting to take the shape of my vision board. the real win today was the plant wall getting installed. plants really make the space warmer. every new addition gets the happy dance from hannah and me. i’m so ready for a day off but fuckkkkk it! let’s do 3 more full days. now tell me, what’s your favorite thing about the new location? plant wall: @propagatesac + @wallygro murals: @oliandbaz front desk: @_steadfastcraft_ design: @sgardnerstyle See more

HELLO FOLKS!! First off, I want to acknowledge that Beehive has always been and will always be a gender inclusive and safe space for all humxn beings. Full stop. This is something we strive for on a daily basis, and an attribute of everyone who works at Beehive that you can rely on. Second, wouldya look at these incredible new stickers we will have at the front desk?! These fabulous pronoun stickers are going to be available for purchase once we open at the new locatio...n. They are vinyl, scratch- and weather-proof, and intended for multi- and long-term use. Each pronoun sticker will be $1, or you can buy 2 of each (a set of 6) for $5. And last, but definitely NOT LEAST, for each purchase of our new pronoun stickers, Beehive will make a donation to the Gender Health Center, which is a non-profit organization that meets the counseling needs of the entire LGBTQQI+ community, with a focus on providing services for the transgender community specifically. Beehive will be proud to donate 50% of all the pronoun sticker proceeds to the Gender Health Center, as soon as the new location is open, and stickers can be sold to you babes! See more

INTRODUCING HANNAH (they/them) It gives me intense joy to introduce you to this king! @hannahpaasch will be starting at Beehive as our Front Desk Office Manager, and we are so incredibly lucky to have them on the team! Hannah will be the first person you will see when you check in at the new location, and there is literally no other face I’d rather have greeting you all. Hannah is an incandescent human, so trying to introduce you to them online isn’t easy, but here ...we go. They are a self-described baby witch, cold brew queen and cat dad, while also being punk-rock as hell and dedicated to creating the space for all humans to heal. They have BIG Virgo energy, are the physical representation of Beehive’s body positivity mantra and have you seen those baby blues?! We are truly lucky to have such a radiant humxn helping us with all things operations, and I cannot wait for you to meet them. Thank you all for giving @hannahpaasch a warm Beehive welcome! See more

First I want to start by saying that we are incredibly grateful for each and every person this email is going to. Beehive would not exist without the support and understanding of each of you, and I know the community we have built together is resilient enough to get through this turbulent time. Unfortunately, I am sending you another update with some bad news The state of California has indicated that body waxing is not a service that can be provided at this time. We unders...tood that opening very quickly last week had risks, but the state has decided those risks are not compatible with flattening the curve of COVID-19. We miss all of you an incredible amount, and if it were safe to open, we would be thrilled to provide you the waxing services you booked. It has been an extremely difficult time being a small business owner during this unprecedented period of global illness, and has been made more emotionally and socially stressful by the on-going and escalating police brutality occurring across this nation. So with that in mind, we thank you for your patience and understanding. However (and it pains us to say this), if you have scheduled an appointment in June, we will be cancelling that for you immediately. We are sincerely sorry for all of the back and forth we went through to get you an appointment on the books, but we cannot see anyone at this time. This time around we will be handling cancelations differently. We will be taking note of every person’s appointment to rebook in the event that we can re-open our doors. Moving forward we will be incredibly cautious when it comes to re-opening. As many of you know, we are in the process of opening our new location. It is still to be determined if we will re-open at that location or at X Street when it is finally time. You can expect to hear from us again before a decision is made on that front. In closing, we just want to reiterate our appreciation for your patience and support during this time. As much as we would LOVE to be able to wax all of you, your safety, our employee’s safety and the overarching health of our community is of utmost importance. See more
