Beauregard Ranch August 30, 2020

Hello friends, Ryan Beauregard reporting from the mountain. The good news is that our winery, our family homes are still standing. Our vineyards have had minimal physical damage (though the crop is destroyed). Though the pressure of the fire has subsided and we have received long awaited assistance from Cal Fire, the mountain is still extremely dangerous. ... I have many friends whom I love that have lost their homes. This is a heartbreaking time in my life. Our community is separated and we are all grieving. Our community will never be the same. If you have been paying attention to the news, many of us have stayed to protect our properties and our neighbor’s properties. The community is here together to fight this. I am grateful to be part of such an amazing community. #bonnydoonstrong

UPDATE: Yesterday we had a real glimmer of hope. The skies seemed to open up, smoke dissipated and there was a sense of calm in all the people I came in contact with. It was my first time being up there since this whole ordeal started. Our community is forever changed but it is not gone and for that I continue to have hope. Not only did Mother nature bless us with a glorious, delicious rain, Cal fire brought helicopters scooping buckets upon buckets of water on our fiery mountainsides. Additional fire breaks were trenched by our crews as well as calfire and I think that our teams that have been fighting tirelessly on the mountain actually had a solid night sleep for the first time in almost a week! Home & Winery still standing!

URGENT UPDATE There are active #wildfires in the #SantaCruzMountains including in Bonny Doon. We have been evacuated and the tasting room is closed. This is a developing situation. A generation and a half ago, there were these two dudes who would drink #romaneeconti wrapped in paper bags on the Santa Cruz Wharf. A radical passion for wine and viticulture led David Hirsch and Jim Beauregard to both become icons in the California world of wine.
