Today, Public Health confirmed 138 new deaths and 15,701 new cases of COVID-19. According to the State, the Southern California Region continues to have 0% ICU capacity remaining. The only path that will reduce the demand on hospital care is to decrease the number of people becoming newly infected with COVID-19. Cases of COVID-19 in L.A. County have doubled in a little over a month. Public Health strongly urges everyone to stay home as much as possible to protect yourself ...and others. Only go out for essential services. When you must leave your home, wear a face covering and stay at least 6 feet away from people you do not live with at all times, no mingling, no crowding, and wash hands frequently. And for those individuals that live with people who are older or have underlying health conditions, wearing a face covering while indoors is now advisable. If you have symptoms or test positive for COVID-19, isolate immediately from your family and others. Individuals with underlying health conditions and those that are older should remain in their home and not be around others unless seeking essential health and dental care. If you are having difficulty breathing, go to an emergency room or call 911. For daily updated numbers, visit www.bchd.org/covidnumbers See more

Even with vaccines on the horizon, it remains essential that we continue to follow the health guidance and take steps to reduce the risk of getting COVID-19 or giving it to others. It truly is safest at home. If you leave your home to deliver or receive essential services, you must wear your face covering correctly and physically distance yourself from others. Wash your hands often. Individuals with underlying health conditions and those that are older should remain in their home and not be around others unless seeking routine or essential health and dental care. If you are having difficulty breathing, go to an emergency room or call 911. For more info and resources, visit www.bchd.org/covidvaccine #LiveWell

For both COVID-19 and flu, it’s possible to spread the virus for at least one day before experiencing any symptoms. If a person has COVID-19, they may be contagious for a longer period of time than if they had flu. Here are the differences for the infection and spreading of the virus between the flu and COVID-19. Throughout this pandemic when we have seen a surge in cases, it is followed by increases in hospitalizations and deaths. It is very important businesses and individuals understand and continue to comply with protocols and directives, to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community. As flu season approaches, COVID-19 continues to circulate at high rates throughout Los Angeles County. It is critically important to be protected from influenza by getting immunized for flu. Flu im...munizations are safe and provide protection against the harmful effects of influenza and can also help keep people out of the hospital freeing up critical hospital resources. As we begin to see increases in COVID-19 hospitalizations and considering the toll COVID-19 has had on our communities and our healthcare system, now more than ever it is important to be protected from influenza.
