Bay Area Court Reporters 01.11.2020

A great time to stay at home while the adjacent building nearby is being demolished, thanks to all of our clients who have called and are willing to have us report their assignments remotely!

At the Deposition Reporters Association convention in Sacramento, these speed champs are so inspirational!

Assemblyman Bill Quirk says he welcomes my letter re AB5 and encouraged me to send it right away! He is on the team to help fight for our cause! So nice to see him at the Hayward Chamber of Commerce Annual Gala! Gavin Newsom and Eric Swalwell will also be hearing from me (whose side are they on?) regarding subs and employees.

We're going to the SuperBowl! Our wager with Green Bay Wisconsin Packers local Court Reporting company and owner Christie paid off, we won this box of chocolates that will be thoroughly enjoyed. We want to thank you Bay Reporting Service. To any agency out there with a name similar to ours, we will always forward payment checks that are rightfully yours (we do get them). Bay Area Court Reporting in Tampa Bay Florida, we're comin' for you next.

To Bay Reporting Service in Green Bay Wisconsin from the San Francisco Bay Area Court Reporters, those Ghirardelli chocolates we promised you are only being sent if your team wins! We're really looking forward to you sending us those Seroogy's Christie said are so famous there. Go 9ers!!

Thank You Todd Olivas and Toni Pulone for starting a petition requesting an exemption for Court Reporters from California Assembly Bill 5. We have been in business for 35 years and have depended upon subcontractors who are not our employees. Changing the status of these workers will force us to charge our customers much more and pay our workers much less. Some of you fabulous Court Reporters have never even met us. We did not pay for your schooling, your equipment, self employment taxes or memberships. You have the privilege of declining the assignments we offer you, working from home at your own pace, working when it suits your family schedule, and working for whomever you'd like. Please help us fight AB5 by signing this petition.

This is our 10th Christmas at City Center Plaza, thank you to all our great office managers and reporters, our sincerest appreciation to the Zaballos Family for this wonderful luncheon and providing all of us with a beautiful place to work. Happy Holidays

See you Saturday! There's a place in our town called Christmas Park, lights all over the place, caroling kids and ice skating kicks, everyone out after dark.

Thank you Eviction Defense Center for allowing our reporter to arrive at 11: today instead of 10: so she could also cover a 9:30 court motion. Never before has our profession faced such a shortage. We have banned together to cover everyone's calendar! We network, email, phone and text after hours. CSR Nation and FB post jobs well into the night. We left our office recently with a job uncovered (unheard of; thanks Marianne). ... Sending my sincere appreciation to all the CSRs working more than your share these past few weeks and my disdain for you bad girls who pass up assignments only to snatch up a big-box-bonus job. This is a golden opportunity to arrange our calendars more like our hairdressers do and learn a thing from interpreters who "have to leave now." Thank you Judy D for being compassionate and dedicated boots-on-the-ground for us today. You are a trooper.

Thanks, Torreano Reporting, for helping us today. When a client of ours needs help in Campbell, it's a no-brainer and a quick giveaway. When they ask for a room and reporter in Palo Alto, we tirelessly search for a location, check the required after-hours availability, plunk down our credit card, then search for a reporter who can do a rush! Thank you to all who replied on CSR Nation. Our client opted instead to simply call Kelty & Scott in Redwood City. Had we known this was a suitable location, we would have called you ourselves much sooner! We lost the time we spent on this but gained the confidence that our customer is in good hands. We've had second-degree burns from networking, it's just not an option.

Tonight’s Downtown Hayward Street Party was so much fun, seeing all of our Chamber of Commerce friends and colleagues a real treat, working in the Beer Garden with John and Danny was intense! Getting to meet Russell Foote, our photographer at so many events, was sweetly personal to me. See ya next month

Three Court Reporters, two hours of Court, one person could have handled this, the shortage grows larger
