LET’S TALK TOX HOW DOES IT WORK? The brain normally sends electrical messages to the muscles, which tell them to contract and produce movement. Over time, these repetitive movements can cause creases or wrinkles in the skin like frown lines. Neurotoxins prevent the muscle from receiving these messages which in turn causes the muscle to relax and smoothes the skin wrinkle.... WHERE DOES THE TREATMENT TAKE PLACE? Dr. Batniji or Nurse Practitioner Ashley perform the injections in the office setting at Batniji Facial Plastic Surgery. In order to maximize the patient’s comfort, a very fine needle is used. Any discomfort that patients do experience during the injection is usually very minor and temporary. WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH? Neurotoxins are effective in treating dynamic wrinkles, or those which are caused by the repeat muscle contraction associated with certain facial expressions. These include forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet and smile or laugh lines. They can also improve banding in the neck. HOW SOON AFTER TREATMENT WILL I SEE IMPROVEMENT? The wrinkle smoothing effects can typically be seen within a few days of treatment, though it takes approximately two weeks for the maximum benefit to be achieved. HOW LONG DO THE RESULTS LAST? On average, results last three to six months. Patients will notice the improvement gradually fading and at this time they may choose to make a follow-up appointment with Dr. Batniji.
