Thank you to all those who are concerned for the well-being of our animals and volunteer staff. We are taking every and all precautions to keep our two and four legged residents safe. Paco can’t wait to sing for you!

Want to play a game? Get some paper, a pencil and a timer. How well do you know your native species? Time yourself and write down as many native species as you can think of. Remember a native species is one that lives here in our country or state and not in a other. For example there are no alligators in California because they are not native to California. But you will find them in back yards in Florida! Are you ready? On your mark, set, go!

Happy Earth Day! Reduce, reuse, recycle! Volunteer to cleanup your community, conserve water, walk or bike often, plant a tree, or create a compost pile. Let’s all do our own small part to keep our planet healthy and beautiful.

Clouded leopards differ from other big cats because they don’t purr or roar. And even though they are some of the best tree climbers in the animal kingdom, clouded leopards are also good swimmers!

The clouded leopards natural habitat are the jungles of Southeast Asia where they are also called The Tree Cat. The clouded leopard is double jointed which allows them to be great tree climbers.

What do a tiger and a clouded leopard have in common? The size of their canines! The clouded leopard is considered the smallest of the big cats because their canine, measuring 2 inches long, is the same size as a tiger which is 10 times larger in body size!

Did you know a lemur can leap 25 feet in a single jump? And a lemur’s calls are so loud, they can be heard almost a mile away!

Barry R Kirshner Wildlife Sanctuary 12.07.2020

Did you know that ring-tailed lemurs are native only to the African island of Madagascar? Their tail which is longer than their body help them keep their balance while jumping between branches. Lemurs typically eat insects, fruit and flowers. We spoil our King Julien with a medley of fresh fruit and vegetables fit only for a primate king! Did you also know that lemurs have two tongues; one for eating and a smaller one for grooming! And a group of lemurs is called a troop and can make up to 24 different vocal calls.
