TAKE A BREAK! Set your alarm, every 20-30 min - move! You want to move for at least 2 minutes before returning to your original position. This will get the blood pumping through your body increasing your alertness.... Your eyes are also controlled by muscles, giving them a break from computer screens and changing where you are looking can also help them from fatiguing too quickly. If you are at work, it may not seem convenient to take a 2 minute break every 20 min. However, you don’t have to stop working! Just set aside a simple task that you can work on in increments. If you had to organize some papers, do that during the 2 minute break. Need to make a phone call? Make the call standing or stretch in your chair. Our bodies like to MOVE. If you must stay where you are - at least give yourself a slight change. Stand, sit, lie down, do some squats.

To start we’ll answer this simple question: why is having good ergonomics important? It will: * reduce costs * increase productivity and quality of work... * focus on safety Let’s break this down. REDUCE COSTS We are often left to make up for lost work due to work-related pain. If you can eliminate the reason, then there will be less lost work days and therefore less money wasted on making up for lost time, human error, and for employers - compensation claims. PRODUCTIVITY AND QUALITY: This one is simple. If you reduce the amount of pain, you can spend more time doing the activity. If you feel good doing the activity, the work can reach better quality because it is not weighed down by discomfort. SAFETY: By showing that you care and are invested in creating a safe and comfortable environment you can increase engagement because there’s no need to focus on things like injury, burnout, or overuse. @ Barrows Training & Education Physical Therapy

This week we are going over simple adjustments you can make to be more mindful of how your environment affects your movement. ... The most important thing when it comes to the workplace is FITTING THE JOB TO THE PERSON - not the other way around. Our first task: pay attention to how you feel in your environment. Whether it’s at home, in the workplace, or at your desk, etc. Then check back here to gain some tips on how to maximize that environment for YOU.
