If you see bees bringing bright yellow or orange pollen into the hive on their back legs, it is a sign that the hive is reproducing, which is a sign that the hive has a laying queen.
Bottlebrush - bees don't see red very well but along with hummingbirds seem to like this tree just fine
Pride of Madeira
Usually they go into the box. Sometimes they have other ideas.
So I picked up four swarms over three weeks from this hive living on an old palm in the shade of a ficus of some sort that was also hooked into the palm. I think maybe bees in precarious locations put more effort into swarming? Anyhow three of them stayed with me and are doing fine.
Lavender and the apiary.
Eucalyptus aren't good for much but the bees do love the flowers at this time of year.
Bee visiting mantis.
Why do they dance on warm nights? I don't think anyone knows.
So beautiful. Such a shame to have to move it.
