The paw of love. That first moment when the oldie rescue, Olivia, mostly blind and deaf and post surgery takes comfort from you. Only one week. #honored #BarkeeBeloveds #barkeelarouxshouseoflove #safe #iminlove #gettingwellOlivia #seniorchihuahuas #seniorchihuahuasofinstagram #seniordogsanctuary

When you hold your breath all night hoping that the post-surgical melt down will pass. And a little more than 24 hours it looks much sunnier. From Olivia - Van Nuys. #olddogsofinstagram #olddogsrule #oldchihuahuas #olddogsanctuary #barkeelarouxshouseoflove #BarkeeBeloveds #Oliviaforever

Miss Olivia from Van Nuys has her emergency dental today. We think Livvy is 15+ easily. Her blood work and xrays came back pretty normal for her age. In the last day or so she has been more curious in exploring our enclosed porch, called the Zen Room, where doggies go to pee and poop at night and are protected from coyotes, bobcats, owls. We have been very gentle with her because we imagine she is suffering from her extraordinarily rotten teeth. And at her age with ...little sight and hearing, all she knows is that she left her home and ended up in a scary shelter, and now she's in a new place with smells and sounds and people she didn't know, no matter how loving we are. But she is a feisty girl. Praying for a great outcome! #olddogsofinstagram #oldchihuahuas #seniordogofinstagram #seniordogsanctuary #barkeelarouxshouseoflove #foreverhome #oldandfeisty See more

Mr. Bob. Three years ago. Never forgotten. So loved and so missed... If you have never loved an animal, you cannot understand the depth of my grief. Today, October 10, 2017, we said goodbye to Bob. I found Bob at Devore shelter after promising Alex I would only drop off a donation in gratitude for our adoption of Bella. But here was Mr. Puppy getting his ass kicked in a run by two other dogs, so of course I had to save him. He was 6 months old. Bella was not amused. After... several massive seizures, he was diagnosed with epilepsy and what began 10 plus years of manging symptoms, massive anxiety, drug interactions. But also, pycho love puppy, shenanigans, and general happy go lucky puppy. And the kindest most love giving dog. The last few months were hard for him with onset dementia and increased aggression. And we finally found out the he had inoperable cancer in multiple locations as we were selling our house and hitting the road in an RV. Of course, Bob had to come. Until today, when in Payson, Utah we found a kind and loving vet and sent him with love, tears and heartbreak to meet Bella, Max and Maddy (And so many others.) Goodbye Bob, mommy's puppy. We are so very sad today. The silence is deafening. And then there were four... #dogsneverforgotten #dogslave #dogloss #alwaysandforevermommyspuppy #Pyschobob #dogstarer See more

We are a house in mourning. I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s start with heartbreak. We lost Theo yesterday. I am in absolute shock and disbelief. Two days before, we noticed that Theo was more fragile, more disoriented and more in need of being handfed and help going outside. He has been weak since he came to us, but we were pretty sure that was because he had not eaten in days and he had an ear infection which caused his staggering. We thought that his ear infection w...as not resolving or that he was developing pain in his mouth that needed to be addressed. I can’t explain the horror I felt when our veterinarian told me, that Theo was the sickest dog we had ever brought to their practice. And we are a hospice. The vet told us that his red blood count was 10%. And that he suspected an immune mediated disease. An immune mediated disease is one where the immune system attacks and destroys its red blood cells. The only other possibility given his tarry stool, very low blood count and lethargy was that he had an undiagnosed tumor rupture. With his current condition and suspected neurological issues, the stress and risk of a blood transfusion was not fair and the prognosis was poor at best. Often times multiple blood transfusions are needed and he was not physically up to the challenge of even one. The most likely cause was an undiagnosed tumor/cancer that has been present for some time although an immune mediated disease cannot be ruled out. Both had a poor prognosis and treatment was lengthy and stressful. Thank you, Theo, for letting us care for you and love you. We are at great loss because we did not have enough time. We are grateful that we were able to rub your tummy and hold you close, make up silly names and sing to you. Run free dear Beloved where the grass grows green, the wind blows softly, the sun shines bright and there is no more pain. We send you with our love.
