Banning Police Department 09.02.2021

PRESS RELEASE P.C. 187 Homicide / P.C. 191.5(A) / 20001(A) On December 8, 2019, at approximately 1730 hours, Officers of the Banning Police Department responded to the area of Ramsey Street and Apex Street, in the City of Banning, County of Riverside; reference an unresponsive male subject located in the street with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The victim, who was later identified as Leron Sanders, of Banning, was pronounced deceased at the scene.... Banning Police Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. The investigation revealed that on December 8, 2019 at approximately 1730 pm, Sanders had been riding a skateboard on the south roadway edge, of the 5000 block of Ramsey Street, when he was struck by a silver vehicle that had partially left the roadway. After the collision, the vehicle sped away leaving vehicle parts and debris behind at the scene. The driver of the vehicle fled the location, leaving Leron Sanders down and helpless on the asphalt roadway edge, before he succumbed to his injuries. Detectives were able to locate, document and collect vehicle parts left behind by the suspect along with additional evidence. During the course of the investigation Detectives were able to identify and locate the vehicle, which was seized as evidence. The driver (suspect) was later identified as: Lilliana Diaz, of Banning. On January 22, 2021, a warrant was issued by a duly appointed Judge of the State of the California, for the arrest of Lilliana Diaz for the crime of Murder. Diaz surrendered at the Banning Police Department on January 22, 2021 and was placed under arrest by Banning Detectives. Diaz was booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility.

PRESS RELEASE Case# 21-119 : Lewd Acts Against a Child & Willful Cruelty to a Child On January 20, 2021 Banning Police Department Officers responded to a call for service in reference to felony child abuse. Officers took initial statements and were able to identify a suspect, Mark Anthony Aleman, who resides in the City of Banning, County of Riverside. ... Detectives were contacted and assumed the investigation. Aleman was contacted and taken into custody a short time later. Aleman was transported and booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility for the above listed criminal charges. Detectives have identified two additional victims and anticipate others will be identified. UPDATE HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION CASE# 21-65 On January 20, 2021 The Riverside County Gang Impact Team (GIT), along with members of the Banning Police Department, located and arrested Jason Rhine at a residence located in the 3000 block of Amhurst Drive, in the City of Riverside, County of Riverside. The Riverside County, Gang Impact Team assisted Banning Police Detectives with serving a search warrant at the location and Rhine was transported back to the City of Banning, whe...re he was later booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility for the crime of murder. Homicide Investigation Case 21-65 During the course of the investigation Jason Rhine, of Banning, was identified as the suspect in this case. Rhine, who also goes by the name, Jason Valasquez, fled the area in a Gray four door Kia Optima, just after shooting the victim. Rhine is considered Armed and Dangerous. HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION Case 21-65 On January 12, 2021 at approximately 8:28 am, Officers from the Banning Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of N San Gorgonio Avenue, in the City of Banning, County of Riverside, for a report of a shooting that just occurred. ... Officers arrived at the location and contacted several subjects who advised that there was a victim inside. Officers entered the location and found a subject down inside of the location. Fire and Paramedics responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased. Detectives arrived on scene and assumed the investigation. PRESS RELEASE Case 20-2732 Incident: Domestic Violence, Assault with a firearm, false imprisonment... On 12-22-2020, at approximately 1534 hours, Banning Police Officers were dispatched to the Hampton Inn hotel, located at 6071 Joshua Palmer Way, in the City of Banning, County of Riverside; for a report of a female subject who was beaten and held at gunpoint by her boyfriend. Officers arrived and contacted the victim who reported that her boyfriend, who was identified as Alfredo Guerrero, was inside of a hotel room armed with a firearm. According to the victim Guerrero beat her, threatened her life and pointed the firearm at her. The victim was held against her will before she was able to escape the room and call for police assistance. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Swat team responded and executed a search warrant for the location. Alfredo Guerrero was taken into custody and booked into the Larry Smith Correctional Facility without further incident. UPDATE Attempt Murder CASE 20-2645 On December 9, 2020, at approximately 0952 hours, the Banning Police Department received 911 calls in reference to shots fired in the area of Almond Way and Nicolet Street, in the City of Banning, County of Riverside. Officers responded and located a crime scene and a victim. Detectives of the Banning Police Department, along with the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, conducted an investigation that led to identifying Willie Scot...t (26) as the suspect in this case. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department S.W.A.T. responded to the location and conducted a search of where the suspect was last seen. Scott was contacted, taken into custody, and booked into the Riverside County Jail for the charge of Attempt Murder. **During the course of the investigation, a second suspect was found hiding from S.W.A.T. Officers. That suspect was identified as: David Aleman (26). Several illegal firearms were also found stashed at the location. Aleman was arrested on charges for assisting Scott in hiding from Law Enforcement, possessing illegal weapons and obstructing and delaying Peace Officers. MURDER ARREST Bradley Cunningham Case (#18-1787) On Sunday, July 1, 2018, at approximately 2157 hours, Banning Police Officers responded to reports of shots heard in the 500 block of Navajo Drive in the City of Banning, County of Riverside. As patrol officers were responding to the area, Banning Police Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call regarding a male on E. Barbour Street in the City of Banning, who had been shot. Officers arrived at the Barbour Street address and located a... 21-year-old male adult, who was later identified as Bradley Cunningham, suffering from several gunshot wounds. Paramedics arrived and administered medical aid. However, Cunningham succumbed to his injuries. Additionally, officers responded to the 500 block of Navajo Drive and located evidence that the shooting occurred in that area. After an extensive investigation by the Banning Police Department Detective Bureau consisting of witness statements, along with corroborating evidence, Jovanny Martinez, William Armendariz and Brandon Hylkema have been arrested for the Murder of Bradley Cunningham and the attempted Murder of another. On November 11, 2019, at about 1918 hours, Banning Police Officers responded to a two vehicle traffic collision in the 1300 block of W Ramsey Street. A female victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. Michael Chaparosa (28), the driver of the second vehicle was subsequently arrested for DUI and Gross Vehicular Manslaughter. On 09-01-2020, Chaparosa was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant reference this case.

PRESS RELEASE - On Sunday, August 30, 2020 at about 1716 hours, Banning Police Officers responded to 911 calls regarding shots being fired at Summit Cemetery (2201 San Gorgonio Ave, Banning, CA). Upon arrival, Officers located multiple victims suffering from gun shot wounds. Witnesses reported seeing the suspects fleeing the area in a white vehicle. Banning Police Department Detective Bureau responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. [UPDATE] from US Forest Service As of 7:15 PM - #APPLEFIRE is at 20,516 acres with 5% containment. The moisture content of vegetation in the area is at record low levels. This condition, coupled with high temperatures, low relative humidity and the fire’s position on the slope is expected to lead to further growth of the fire. Current resources on the fire include 29 hand-crews, 9 Helicopters, 260 Engines, 11 Dozers and 48 Water Tenders. A number of air tankers are availab...le to the fire as well.
