CRACKED TOOTH SYNDROME is on the rise--due to old mercury fillings cracking good, solid enamel, and also due to an increase in clenching and grinding. Do YOU ...have pain when you chew on one of your old amalgam (aka "silver") fillings? If so, you likely have a crack caused by this mercury filling and, if left untreated, can lead to breaking the tooth, or the crack spreading to the nerve causing an unbearable toothache, and possibly losing the tooth! See your dentist if you any symptoms to save the tooth before its too late!

DETOX after all the Easter chocolate you ate!! If you are like most, you might have one too many chocolates this weekend. But don't fret! You can cleanse your ...colon and rid your body of all the excess toxins in just a few days. Detoxing reduces inflammation, boosts energy, supports digestion, cleanses your liver, and boosts your immune system, which is needed after a load of sugar (as sugar is an immune-suppressent). Every day we are exposed to environmental pollutants, preservatives, heavy metals, pesticides and cancer-causing chemicals. We inhale, ingest or come into contact with these toxins and they get stored in the tissues and cells throughout our bodies. Many of these toxins have demonstrated harmful cancerous, reproductive, metabolic and mental health effects. Detox drinks help us to avoid toxic overload before it becomes a major health problem. Some signs of a toxic overload include: constipation bloating gas headaches fatigue aches and pains nausea belly fat skin problems food cravings low energy bad breath mood swings Starting your detox is quick and easy! The best ingredients for a detox juice are: Watermelon: Vitamin A, B, lycopene (anti-oxidant), Potassium,Magnesium Lemon: Ascorbic acid, Vitamin C Lime: Ascorbic acid, Vitamin C Cucumber: Polyphenol (slows aging), diuertic (flushes liver/kidneys) Grapefruit: AMP-K (helps utilize sugar), Vitamin C Raspberries: Ketones (help lose weight), Vitamin B, C Strawberries: Flavinoids (anti-inflammatory antioxidant), Mint: Antioxidant, helps move bile through stomach, anti-microbial Ginger: remove bloating, constipation, digestive aid Rosemary: Dandelion: laxative, increase urine production,Vitamin C, move bile through stomach Apple Cider Vinegar: Acetic acid (increases metabolism), probiotic Aloe Vera Gel: laxative, anti-inflammatory, encourage digestive bacteria

National STOP SNORING week! Do you find yourself constantly waking up from "forgetting to breathe"? Or does someone wake you up from your loud snoring? Or do... wake up with a severely dry mouth and a sore throat? If you said YES to any of these, call our office (714) 557-8492 for a complimentary consultation on Snoring and Slepp Apnea issues. MOUTH BREATHING disrupts our natural body mechanics. It can affect a number of bodily functions and lead to symptoms such as: Headaches Gingivitis and gum disease Sore throat and cold symptoms Bad breath and higher risk for cavities Poor sleepleading to chronic fatigue Digestive disturbancesgas, upset stomach, acid reflux, etc. Why do some people breathe through their mouth? There are a number of reasons: Nasal polyps Deviated septum Swelling of the turbinate Sinus or respitory infection Chronic nasal congestion Enlarged adenoids/tonsils Allergies When we take in air through the mouth, less oxygen is able to be absorbed into the bloodstream. Poor sleeping habits often result from lower oxygen levels. In children, this can adversely affect growth and academic performance. It has even been connected to ADD and ADHD symptoms. In adults, poor oxygen concentration in the bloodstream has been associated with high blood pressure, heart problems, sleep apnea and other medical issues. Many mouth breathers are also snorers because the air that flows through the mouth causes a greater amount of tissue vibration than what it would passing through the nose. At the back of the soft palate is a small extension called the uvula. It assists with soft palate functions. The uvula and palate are typically the structures vibrating. After heavy snoring through a night, it is not uncommon for both structures to be swollen. Some individuals experience a gagging sensation when they first wake up until the swelling has decreased a bit. This constant friction is very irritating to these delicate tissues. Also, because you are breathing through your mouth, the air dries your throat. You are not swallowing to provide these mucus membranes with moisture, so the airflow dries them. Unfortunately, this inflammation worsens the obstruction causing the snoring. This is especially true in overweight individuals and others with a narrower airway. A mouthpiece can help prevent a sore throat because it holds your jaw or tongue in a forward position while you sleep. By doing this, the soft tissues are not able to fall back and vibrate, which also means they do not cause friction against the throat to cause soreness or inflammation. As a bonus, the obstruction causing the snoring in the first place is now eliminated. The snore guard will also protrude the lower jaw forward to tighten the muscles in the throat so as to open the airway and allow natural positive air pressure. There are different types of snore guards. One is a Mandibular Advancement Device which pulls the lower jaw forward thus opening the throat airway. The other is a Tongue Stabilizing Device, which pulls the tongue forward and thus opening the throat airway. Both very effective but have a different feeling in the mouth. If you suffer from any of these symptoms, don't wait--get checked before it's too late.

If you've ever suffered from any type of tooth pain, you know how uncomfortable it can be. One lesser known cause of tooth pain is a SINUS INFECTION. If you su...ffer from sinus infection tooth pain, here's some information to be aware of. Sinus pain is a common symptom of your immune system waging war on pollen and dust-SEASONAL ALLERGIES. The hollow spaces in your head fill up with mucus, causing aches and pains in your face. The maxillary sinuses, the largest sinuses in your face, are located above your mouth. When pressure builds in these sinuses, it can push down on the roots of your upper molars. You may experience sensitivity to hot and cold or notice pain that shifts as you sit, stand or lie down. The roots of the upper molars are in close proximity to the sinus cavities. So when the sinuses become infected and swollen, the resulting pain is often mistakenly believed to have originated in the teeth. If you think you have a sinus infection, make an appointment to see us (714) 557-8492. Over-the- counter medications might offer some pain relief but we will best be able to determine your course of treatment.

HAPPY EASTER! This Sunday is the most important holiday in the Christian faith. It is the day that celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. When Jesus ro...se from the dead, according to the Bible, He conquered death and, thus, paved the way to salvation for Christians all over the world. Gradually, Easter has been acknowledged by non-Christians, as a celebration of spring, fertility, renewal, and new life. In legend, the Easter hare and spring bunny bring baskets filled with colored eggs, candy, and sometimes toys to the homes of children on the night before Easter (similar to Santa Claus). The Easter bunny traditionally has hid these baskets in the garden for the children to find the next day, hence the Easter egg hunt. However you celebrate this special day, enjoy it with peace, love, enlightenment, and laughter. HAPPY EASTER!

CODEINE is one of the most common OTC and prescribed pain killers that causes a rapid and silent deadly addiction. It is commonly known as VICODIN and TYLENOL #...3. If taken at high doses, can lead to dramatic mood swings/depression, irregular heart beats, sleep disorders, decreased respiration/low oxygen levels, and permanent brain damage & coma, The more you take, the more you need to take to get the pain relief, thus causing the addiction and the withdrawal symptoms can be extremely difficult to tolerate. CODEINE is also often found in OTC cough/cold syrups and sinus infection syrups/congestion issues. PLEASE read the labels before you take any medications for coughs/colds/sinus congestion/infection..
