Giving Tuesday is a global generosity movement unleashing the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. @givingtuesday We are Bakersfield’s only preprofessional ballet company, and a 501(c)3 nonprofit running on the support of private and corporate donors and grant funding. We believe the classical ballet technique as well as other styles of dance teach a person several important character building traits, such as poise, self confidence..., accountability and reliability. Our vision is to see our community inspired and entertained through the art of ballet. We aim to make ballet accessible to the widest possible audience through annual performances, educational programs, the creative use of media, and other outreach efforts. Everyone should have access to the performing arts as a participant or patron, knowing that exposure in any capacity can leave one feeling inspired and awed. Donations received provide funding for our annual show theater rental, costumes, master classes for company members, and provide assistance in our community outreach programs. No gift is too small and all contributions are greatly appreciated. BCB is a gold rated Guidestar participant and donations are tax deductible up to the extent allowed by law. MEET THE COMPANY Victoria Marchetti, Principal 20/21 Season. Dancing throughout quarantine presented many obstacles but a big positive was the performing arts community coming together online. ... Many virtual classes were offered by incredible instructors from all over the world. That allowed me to experiment with different dance styles regularly that I otherwise would never have had access to. My studio and BCB quickly moved to Zoom classes and gave me something to look forward to every day. As for her future plans with dance Victoria would like to dance in college and possibly a professional company. I know in my heart that dance will always be a part of my life. MEET THE COMPANY Victoria Marchetti, Principal 20/21 Season. During a dress rehearsal for last year’s production of The Nutcracker, Victoria suffered major injuries in her feet while landing a jump. After successful surgery and physical therapy she was able to start dancing again in February of 2020. ... One of the biggest challenges from my injury was not being able to perform some of my dances that I had worked very hard on. I was optimistic about my recovery because I knew no matter what I wanted to continue to dance and perform. This mindset kept me focused on healing and strengthening so I could continue doing what I love. When I was not able to dance I realized that it really is the thing I love, whether it is dancing in my living room or on a stage. In her third season with BCB Noor enjoys several aspects of being a part of the company - (Company) Class and rehearsals are such a wonderful experience. The BCB Artistic Faculty present many various styles of classical and contemporary ballet which educate me about the world of dance. ... And in terms of the new normal/dancing during quarantine - this time has taught me the importance of being surrounded by other dancers during class. Noor’s future plans for dance include, attending a college with a great dance program, and achieving my ultimate goal of joining a professional dance company. Noor was thrilled to attend her first intensive with @sab_nyc workshop in Irvine CA in 2019 and study under @sukischorer (second picture). ... She most recently attended the @abtschool summer intensive (offered virtually this year) and recalls the experience taught me so much. She was eager to take dance classes after she saw @civicdancebakersfield production of The Nutcracker.... Like so many before her, Noor was touched by the magic of the show and the stage, and was inspired to be a part of it all. My favorite performance memory is when I performed as a Taffy Twin with my friend. MEET THE COMPANY Alex Zaletel, Soloist 20/21 Season When asked what she enjoys most about ballet Alex answered, My favorite part of class and rehearsal is learning new choreography. I love that I get to unwind (with dance) everyday, and seeing my friends and dancing with them is what I look forward to. ...
