To wine lovers everywhere: Our friends at Central Coast Wine Works are donating the profits of a 2014 Cab as relief-aid to the Bakersfield Budo dojo in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. This vintage comes with a little homemade dojo artwork as the wine label to reflect with while MAKING IT THROUGH some pretty tough times. If you enjoy your wine, and would like to support the Bakersfield dojo, head over to https://www.centralcoastwineworks.com/s/shop and consider the "...One Heart" label for purchase. Available in case, half-case and single bottles! Please check shipping restrictions for your state. Big thanks to Carter sensei for giving us this opportunity!
Thank you, Sensei. These reflections are well received and much needed, in these new days, I remain grateful.

Reiho is the act of conveying respect through formalized etiquette. The actions during reiho are a reflection of a person’s sincerity and humility toward other...s. They evolved from necessity during times of great concerns. Where the sword is placed, how the body is arranged, how and why one is willing to go a step further to show appreciation, consideration and express concern for his fellow man, enemies AND comrades. Etiquette, manners, courtesy is the grease that lubricates society. It eases the friction between human beings in order to eliminate conflagrations and impetuous thoughts. The closer we are in heart, in suffering, in shared oppression and proximity, the greater the friction between us. During these days of strife and conceived notions of exclusion, perhaps, a single sincere act of modern reiho can convey ones gratitude and respect for others. I believe that in this moment in our lives, this photo portrays those considerations in a very current and sincere way.

The youth Karate class performed wonderfully tonight! This Wednesday marked the first Shinsa (promotion examination) for several of our new students. The #bakersfielddowntown #dojo is growing at a good pace, we are eager to see where 2020 takes us. A special thank you to @a_k_loya for all of her hard work. Kristy has proven to be a natural educator, it’s likely in her blood. Additional thanks to the parents of these dedicated young people, we truly enjoy the kids, thank you for allowing us to share what we do with them. Congratulations to everyone who passed! @ Bakersfield Budo

We here, are crippled with grief at the loss of our dear friend, student and teacher, Andrew Hudson. Andrew spent many years with us at the dojo, and for that I am grateful. One of the most hardworking young men I’ve ever known, always learning, always willing to help and always striving to be better than yesterday. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in the days ahead. Please know how much we loved Andrew and how deeply saddened we are by his passing. Ro...Continue reading
A long road trip yesterday included a visit to our students practicing #musojikideneishinryu at the #slobuddhisttemple. This group was established a number of years ago by Jen Hooper, Sensei @neptunetide. My visit was a surprise to the guys, the look I got walking through the doors was worth it! #knbk #budo @ Avila Beach, California
