BakerNowicki is in the process of reconfiguring a portion of La Sierra High School to relocate the existing kitchen lab, remove walls and enclose a patio area which will expand the current culinary classrooms that are located on opposite sides of the campus. The design brings the programs together in order to allow for closer collaboration within a new commercial kitchen, residential kitchen and a lecture/dining space. Alvord had enough points to compete after CDE's review and award of a grant application which then provided funding from the Prop 51 CTE Facilities Program. La Sierra High School #CDE #bakernowicki

Murrieta Elementary School opened in 1958 as the first school in what would later become the Murrieta Valley Unified School District. The school serves students in Kindergarten through Grade 5. Over the years classrooms, offices, and a cafeteria were added and some of the campus was modernized in 2002. The Master Plan scope for this site, developed in 2019 includes replacing relocatable classrooms near the playing fields with a two-story permanent structure that will reclaim the site for fields and provide classrooms for General and Special Ed. #bakernowicki

BakerNowicki Design Studio is pleased to announce that Buddy Gessel will be serving on DSA's Public School Construction Collaborative (PSCC). DSA has established the PSCC to represent stakeholders, promote safety of public building construction and advise on issues related to the design and construction of public buildings under DSA’s jurisdiction. The Collaborative is comprised of 15 individuals that represent a cross-section of stakeholders that are involved in K-12 public schools, community colleges and state-leased buildings. It’s not common to have projects that literally require the speed of construction to accelerate, but Innovations Academy is an uncommon job. The project is a full site modernization of a two story, 65,000 sqft. commercial tilt up construction into a Field Act compliant facility to be occupied by the K-8 charter school. It required substantial foundation and structural upgrades which includes 37 caissons and a dramatic interior remodeling of the space. The pace of construction has been breathtaking - 2 shifts, 20 hours per day, 6 days per week for 5 months by Balfour Beatty Construction and had multiple superintendents, inspectors, and construction crews to manage the daily work. Dr. Roger Schultz, MSJC Superintendent/President provided a facility update to the Menifee City Council this week. Our Kinesiology & Athletics Complex project was one of the projects shared with the City Council. The football only Stadium provides a closer event watching experience by bringing the bleachers right next to the field due to the absence of the typical running track. The Field House portion includes 30,000 SF of space devoted to kinesiology classrooms, locker a...nd team rooms, staff offices, an aerobics room and a fitness center. The facility is intended for more than just sports. This 5,000 seat stadium will be the go-to venue in the Menifee area. The existing Culinary Arts Program at La Sierra HS is operating out of a 51 year old antiquated facility with inadequate equipment, ventilation, and fragmented spaces. The modernized spaces will relocate the nutrition class to the culinary arts building, enclose a patio to expand and update the residential kitchen and dining area as well as build a commercial kitchen, student Grab & Go Snack Bar and staff Servery & Cafe. Redesigning the facility where the programs are locate...d together will add to the students knowledge of safety and food sanitation as they deepen their understanding of food cooking methods and principles, catering practices, commercial baking, and restaurant/retail food service occupations. This project is funded from Prop 51 Career Tech Program and is at DSA for review and approval. The next best thing to walking newly constructed classroom spaces is to experience them in a Zoom-based live tour. Take it from the eighty-five Zoom viewers who were said to have found themselves "virtually thrilled" at the design of these unique programs for @SantaAnaUSD students. BakerNowicki Design Studio and Vessel Creative Solutions partnered with the district at two of the district's high school campuses to design the program spaces. For the Edward James Olmos School... of Film and Cinematic Arts program at Santa Ana HS, Architect Richard Nowicki said the team was directed to create a professional film studio and redesign the Library space on the on the second floor of a non-descript, three-story building. The design consists of a large Film Studio outfitted for filming and instruction, two Editing Rooms, a Digital Broadcast Suite with Control Room and Studio, a Digital Media Lab and a Flex Lab. Don Isbell, Director of Career Technical Education said now students have access to participation in a sequence of courses designed to acquaint them with all aspects of the industry and provide them with authentic, relevant, work-based projects so they develop entry level employment skills that allow them to enter into high paying careers. #santaanahs #SanArts #bakernowicki #innovative #integrated #santaanausd A4LE

The Gym at Liberty High School will offer assigned spaces for wrestling, team rooms, training rooms, locker rooms, and a weight room on the second floor overseeing the athletic fields. The main competition gym takes advantage of the 15 foot site grade change that separates the academic buildings from the athletic fields. With an overall height of 48 feet from field level and a capacity of 1282 seats, the gym building will undoubtedly be one of the focal points on the campus. Construction on the gym building is now 60% complete. The campus will be open in Fall 2021 Perris Union High School District

Agua Caliente Elementary School, Palm Springs USD - Transformation Project: This project began with an assessment of the 60-year-old elementary campus. A study was commissioned and determined that it was not feasible or desirable to try to ‘fix’ the existing campus of its material and planning defects. Once determined that replacement of the school was required, the campus logistics became a primary driver of the design. ... Building a new facility on an occupied campus presented multiple challenges for planning, construction and student safety. The phased construction plan allowed students to safely remain on campus while they were afforded the opportunity to observe the construction of an entirely new campus for them. BakerNowicki Design Studio worked with local law enforcement and the community to solve critical community safety issues by 1) Creating a single point of entrance to the campus, 2) Creating a secure campus and perimeter, and 3) Limiting vehicular access for non-school activities. #bakernowicki #innovative #palmspringsusd

While it’s fun to get an award, what we love most is that kids get to go to school in an environment like this every day.
