Dear Governor Newsom- Our California Salon industry needs your help. I know it is a challenging demographic as the salon industry is fragmented. 90% of the Ca. market is rental, independent contractors, 1099 and it's hard to track what they do or how they do it. They don't claim most of their income on taxes and dodge the system as much as possible. The average claimed income for stylists is around $22-25k per year. This is false! They are making much, much more but operate o...utside the system. These are now the same people who are outraged that the government isn't helping them more. I would like to ask you to consider a site by site certification for opening safe salons during Covid-19. There are many of us who have employees who have health insurance and retirement plans offered through our companies. We are a group of salon owners who have gone above and beyond to make our salons safe. I personally have spent $20k+ on retrofitting my salon and buying PPE only to not have been able to open since March 17. There are may of us who have run legitimate companies and take pride in helping our staff meet their life goals of building families, buying cars, houses and going on vacations. We are the 10% of salon owners in California who need your help because we have always followed the rules, cared about our employees and take pride in running a real companies in California. Please consider launching site inspections with CV19 certification prior to letting salons re-open. This will allow our customers to come for salon services again and feel confident they are safe in our salons. I am inviting all other salon owners and staff to join me in this plea. We need site certification to open safely. I appreciate your time and energy during this trying time. Our safe, professional and controlled salon is not allowed to open. Getting your hair services outside is not safer. Help us open!! Demand your salon be a safe open space. @gavinnewsom @behindthechair_com @repbarbaralee @berkeleymayor @asmbuffywicks #saveoursalons @aveda @virtuelabs @salontodayofficial

Outdoor hairstyling being allowed isn’t as easy as it seems. We need to open our safe businesses! @gavinnewsom @city.of.berkeley @acgov @alamedacounty

What do you think about @gavinnewsom’s and @cabarbercosmo’s decision to allow beauty services outdoors? @sarahdidmyhair shares her thoughts below Please be re...spectful in your comments #beautylaunchpad Non-hairstylist, did you know that we went to school for 1600 hours? During this time they did not teach me how to do beautiful hair, we spent most of the time learning how to keep a safe and sanitary environment. We studied microbiology, bacteriology, blood pathogens, viruses, parasites and we passed both a practical and written exam! The @cabarbercosmo is not sticking up for this industry and so many salons are going to be forced to shut permanently! Instead of shutting us down, HIRE MORE PEOPLE to regulate us... Our salon was taking temperatures, working every other station, taking only one client at a time, wearing masks, sanitizing before, during and after, and doing everything we can to prevent the spread. What other open businesses are doing this?? As for wanting us to work outside, Last week the weather was well into the 100’s, so how are we supposed to work outside? Clients have to be under a drape, wearing a mask... We are not even supposed to offer the clients drinks! Our insurance will not cover us working outside if someone gets heat exhaustion. The government is not paying us unemployment (at least not everyone)! Salon owners are losing businesses that they have worked their whole lives for! Shame on our state board for not having our backs! PLEASE SHARE See more
