MARTINI HOUR IS OFFICIALLY HERE! "Since opening late last year, Union Square’s Ayala has been a pasta-and-seafood place with innovative wines and a clear aspiration to start off dinner with a stiff aperitif. Bar director Julian Cox has taken another step in that direction with Martini Hour, a daily 4-5:30 p.m. happy hour with drinks like a $9 Signature Martini (frozen CapRock gin, Dolin dry vermouth, and an olive or twist) or a $10 Old Fashioned (Evan Williams single-barrel, Demerara sugar, and Angostura bitters) plus $5 beers. Edge into dinner with bar bites like cured trout crisp, bone marrow, a Yuzu Kosho baked oyster, or the intriguing-sounding fries with eyes.
