Fires sweep California forests, hundreds evacuated and power cuts SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - California emergency officials on Thursday ordered hundreds of peopl...e to evacuate a historic wine-producing town north of San Francisco, while about 200,000 people in the state were without power as forest fires spread in Sonoma County. Kinked fires, which were fueled by high winds, devoured about 10,000 acres on Thursday, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. The Sonoma County police chief issued a mandatory evacuation order for the town of Giserville, home to about 900 people, while the warning of the need for evacuation is still in force in the northern town of Healdsburg, according to "AFP." As fire crews fought raging fires, footage and photos posted by local reporters on social media showed the ruins of destroyed houses that were devoured by the fires. About 196,000 people were without power in the state on Thursday, according to the website. See more
