It’s a winner! Congratulations to AXIS/GFA Founding Principal Architect Shawn Alexander, Associate Architect Matthew Johnston, and the entire team at AXIS/GFA’s San Francisco studio upon being awarded the 2019 Pacific Coast Builder’s Conference (PCBC) Gold Nugget Award for Best Affordable Housing Community Under 30 DU/Acre for their design of Healdsburg’s Citrine Apartments! To quote the Judges’ statement: The judges praised the 37-unit Citrine Apartments for its compatibilit...y with the neighboring Hotel Trio, and for fitting the context of this California wine-country town. The Town of Healdsburg required the developer to provide affordable non-market workforce housing on the same site as the newly developed hotel, setting a new precedent for future developments across the State. The design and development team created this simple L-shaped building to wrap around a convivial green space amenity for the residents to gather and enjoy. The judges found this approach to development a great example of how the future of much-needed affordable housing can be accomplished and executedwe tip our hat to you! Congratulations and shared credit to Seaview Investors as the developer, R.D. Olson as the builder, Roche + Roche as the land planner, Design Force for their interior design expertise, and Brian Ashby for his photography.
