On Wednesday Evening at a Main Street office in Ventura ACI conducted a Civil Discourse focused upon Principles. The attendees were Americans from across the spectrum. The conversation was intense but notably devoid of bigotry.

MEETINGS GREAT & SMALL Our group's research has found that CIVILITY is crucial to COMMUNITY.... ACI's own process has found that our grace for each other is what brings the depth to our meetings & our service. A little patience & humor can help with bridging differences. As Americans meet with friends & family during this troubled holiday season: A quiet moment shared can help us touch the common values that bind us - Truth & Love are universal principles. Asking a question can open hearts - "What is it that we are thankful for?" Beyond all winning & losing is found any hope for the healing of the world. It is our striving toward understanding the perspective of the other that will bring our people to an enduring peace.

BASIC HUMAN PROCESS ACI has reviewed our findings from the recent Ventura event - AMERICAN POSSIBILITIES... A CIVIL DISCOURCE. A group of 20 diverse people with a variety of perspectives sustained a lively yet friendly conversation around issues presently confronting us all. What is most important about this, much more than even the topic, is the basic human process of the event: Gathering together around mutual issues. Sitting peacefully in a circle for awhile. Speaking honestly & listening respectfully. Focusing upon universal principles. Not focusing upon personal differences. Sharing common meanings. Seeking common purpose. ACI invites friends to contact us to learn more about how to use the Process to solve problems.

Monday evening 9/19 at VCSL, ACI conducted AMERICAN POSSIBILITIES: A Civil Discourse. A group of diverse people met & talked about Liberty, Justice & Human Rights together. We will post our findings later this month.

I invited the Awakening Community Institute to hold a workshop in my interdisciplinary Peace Studies course in the Spring of 2016. ACI far exceeded my expectations and created, with the group, an incredibly nurturing, productive environment. The students felt listened to, cared about, as if they mattered. The process that the ACI leaders led us in produced a picture of the group’s priorities in their communities. I believe that all the students benefitted from hearing each other’s background, reflections, and sense of the future. Ultimately, having the ACI team in my class created not only a deeper sense of community, but also a more authentic sense that each of us matters, to each other, and to the fate of our shared future. I attended an Awakening Community discussion to learn more about civil discourse as a response to the polarization in our society today. The meeting turned out to be a compassionate conversation about values. The facilitators, Brock Travis and Pamela Phillips, created a respectful environment where differences were celebrated rather than merely tolerated. A review of the situation indicates a continuing disconnect from our basic ability to communicate with each other around our core principles of Love, Truth, Kindness, Wisdom, Compassion, Responsibility, Justice, and Liberty.
