Chickenpox Chickenpox is a viral infection caused by the varicella zoster virus. Infection mostly causes a fever and red itchy rash. It is highly contagious inf...ection in both children and adults. Its spreads very easily, highly contagious and also self treatable. Chickenpox rash is a red itchy rash that starts on the belly or back and face. It spreads all over the body including scalp, mouth and genitals. Rash starts as an insect bite turns into a blister which break and leave open sore and finally crusts over to form a scab. Chickenpox is contagious from about 2 days before the rash starts until all the blisters are crusted over. How the infection spreads From mother to baby by pregnancy. By (coughs or sneezes). By (handshakes or hugs). By (kissing or shared drinks). By touching (blanket or doorknob). A Virus causes chickenpox so antibiotics cannot treat the infection. Relief can be obtained by 1) Using cool wet compresses and Oatmeal baths can help to relieve itching. 2) Using calamine lotion on itchy areas except on the face 3) Ask your doctor about Benadryl OTC med for itch relief 4) OTC Fever relief medications. Never use Aspirin in children as it can lead to serious illness. Consult a doctor for medical advice.
