We have opened a Dungeons and Dragons game for first-time players on 1/7 @ 6pm. We have 2 seats remaining in this game. What do you have to lose? Give it a try and see if it gives you a 2-hour distraction and socialize with some other players in an adventure. ARM will continue to host Dungeons & Dragons games via Zoom through the end of January and beyond if there is interest. We have only posted these events to ARM members. We have starter games for those ASD adults that ...have never played D&D before to experience the process and find out if this is something they will enjoy. We have gotten positive feedback from both parents and players for these games. Here is a link to the next starter game that has open seats -> https://www.meetup.com/www-autismresourcemom-o//275377745/

What a great smartphone application idea for children that in the past had to eat by themselves because of bullying. This will be beneficial when kids return to in person learning.

When the pandemic hit us in early March, air travel shut down. I was actually at an event in Florida as it unfolded. We should have had a large foreign continge...nt at one program, and none of the could fly to the US. Everyone was worried. I flew home the next day and within a few days most travel had ceased. Over the next few weeks all my speaking engagements were cancelled. Schools went online or cancelled. Appointments at Robison Service dried up. We furloughed half the workforce and hunkered down to see what would happen. We were very lucky. Most of what we do at Robison Service is major repairs and restoration, where people work mostly alone in large open areas. We don’t have much walk in traffic. Everyone worried about economic collapse, but with all the people working from home, landscapers and home improvement stores had a banner year. The government stepped in with supports for businesses like ours and we survived the initial shutdown. Since then, enough people have turned to collector cars that we mostly made up the shortfall from March and April. Things were looking ok, but as weather has cooled, the virus is returning to New England. We hit a peak of 3,000 cases per day in late April but were below 200 cases a day by mid August. Now cases have climbed over 1,000 per day with no sign of slowing. Hospitalizations are up and deaths starting to rise. Meanwhile, we have conflicting public health messaging and no coherent Federal strategy to get on top of this. I believe hand washing, social distancing, and masks will help, but none of us really knows what will be enough, with enough defined as being safe. Hospital workers did all those things in the spring and many died anyway. All I can do is hunker down and hope our precautions are good enough; I hope our company comes through this will all of us intact and able to keep working. The latest forecast is for a winter that was worse than the spring. It looks like we may have a vaccine by spring, but the vaccine’s effectiveness may be limited barely better than 50% - so none of us can feel safe as individuals. We must wait for the virus to fade from lack of hosts, and if many people decline the vaccine, that may take a year or more. Therefore, we may remain in this netherworld of social distancing and virtual events until spring of 2022. What’s the world going to look like, when this is behind us? For the past dozen years I have taken over 50 trips a years to meet speaking, government and consulting obligations. In my 60s, it is hard to imagine how I would return to that, and when. Yet this pandemic presents comparatively little threat to younger people, and I wonder if this is the cue for my generation to turn things over to the next. Perhaps it is. I’ve been able to fulfill my teaching duties virtually, and I can continue that more easily than I can speaking to groups of strangers. But I can see virtual teaching isn’t for everyone either both on the teacher side and the student side. Colleges are seeing drops in enrollment, and many question the cash value of some online learning propositions. I wonder how much faculty turnover this crisis will precipitate. Even though I’m not sick with COVID, I am dragged down by depression. I am tired in a way I wasn’t before. There is little to look forward to in a work of endless work/eat/sleep cycles. I know I am not the only one feeling this way, and I wonder what the long term effect of that will be too. What sort of world do you think we will return to, when this is over? Assuming, of course, that we are here to see it. COVID has certainly made us aware of the unpredictability of life, and our own mortality in a way nothing else recent has. The 1918 flu killed 600,000 Americans and this virus may do the same, given current CDC mortality numbers and 800-1,000 deaths a day with no end in sight.

I am writing this post and it is directed toward Parents of ASD Adults (over age 18). Do your adult children engage in online gaming? Is this their most signi...ficant form of social connection with others? Are they looking for something better that they can do to communicate at a deeper level with others that would be safe in the present state of Covid lockdowns and social isolation for our children's safety? Do your children have an imagination? If you are interested in a different form of communication, I would like you to contact me personally so that I can invite you into a private discussion board to discuss my ideas further. I would like to do some surveys and ask some questions and flush out my ideas and bring them to reality with feedback from Parents and their ASD Adults. Please reach out to me if you're interested in discussing this further. There is a send message button at the bottom of this post. Reach out to me so I can connect with you and tell you more about my ideas.

I used to play this game years ago. I was in the United States Coast Guard and on a ship. We played in the gally where we ate meals. I was the Dungeon Master at that time. It was great fun and I think my shipmates also had fun playing.
