The Rendon team went to view #RendonAlumni Gary Wong's exhibition Drive By Picture Show | Word Pictures Drawings & Paintings at Eastern Projects Gallery.The exhibition is on view by appointment through August 8th. *** The cultural undulations of Los Angeles have deeply influenced California native Gary S. Wong's artistic, musical, and spiritual life--from getting arrested and jailed for peacefully protesting the bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church, to studying at Cho...uinard Art Institute when the Watts riots were in full swing. "The reason I paint is as old as Mankind itself: the need to make a mark, to leave a message. I began eliminating the figure or any recognizable subject through my synthesis of stories, myths, ancient history, poems, and songs as written. The purpose of which is to bring focus to the purely visual aspects of the text without the interjection of one’s psyche's interpretation of that which is recognizable. The word conversation comes to mind, the visual energy of story told again and again. The marks, once made, inform the next and the next, and the once silent dialogue develops into a conversation." We’ve strengthened our relationships with the arts community, both here in Downtown Los Angeles and on a global leveland we’ve loved every minute of it. We are grateful to everyone who has participated in our art exhibits and community events this year, whether as an artist, musician, dancer, vendor, crewmember, staff member, or audience member. Art At The Rendon // Rhythms Of The City was a tremendous success! When we first dreamed up RHYTHMS OF THE CITY, we had no idea if it would work. But two weeks ago, our vision came to life, and we were thrilled with the results. Three evenings of pure alchemy, emotive, transformative and above all unifying. RHYTHMS OF THE CITY raised over 38,000 from ticket sales and donations, and it will all be donated to Play with Music to help them continue to provide educa...tional programming for underserved Los Angeles youth. More than 1600 of you joined us to experience these collaborative live performances featuring countless musicians in 40+ rooms playing a piece composed especially for RHYTHMS OF THE CITY by Grammy-winning composer Heitor Pereiraand the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We’ve been overjoyed to receive so many amazing reviews, both in person and on social media. SPECIAL THANKS Thank you to everyone who attended RHYTHMS OF THE CITY. The audience is a key element to any immersive event, and it means so much to us that you were part of this one. Thank you to all of the musicians and dancers who brought their talent and energy into the Rendon’s rooms and corridors. Thank you to our collaborators, the entire production team, audio and tech team, musical director and music supervisors, check-in team, photographers, videographers, bar crew, food vendors, and sponsors.
